matt_dillon Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 i have recently joined the scooby club by purchasing myself a beautiful 93 WRX, but i have a few questions which i hope somebody will be able to answer for me. 1. what should the boost be set at? i've heard it should be around 12-15psi for standard. its currently at around 9psi (according to the boost gauge), but it has a bleed valve so can be increased if necessary. 2. is it possible for the standard ecu to get re-mapped? or do i need to invest in an uprated one? wheres the best place for this to be done locally? 3. or is there a better engine mod i could do before a re-map? any guidance you are able to give me is most welcome. its only got a few minor engine mods; a full de-cat HKS exhaust with a HKS induction kit.
dazzlers82 Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 cant answer ur boost question mate but you are better off gettin a upgrade ecu like apexi pfc an if you gonna mod the engine then best you do it before gettin mapped an jolly green monster on here done mine as he is pretty local bein near maidstone an he be the man for the job, an you cant remap standard ecu not as far as i am aware.
insane clown Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 Hi! mate welcome to the club!....yep thats right you can't re-map the standard ecu, check to see what one you have though matey, >>passenger footwell, take the trim off along the door step, pull the carpet back, undo the bolts/nut on the plate...you'll see a 2 digit code on top of case on ecu eg:...mine says W6.., post again what you find, your boost could be anything between 11-13 psi depending on ecu...so i don't think your gauge is far out?. don't over do it with the manual boost controler, wind it in about 1/4 turn at a time, i have mine set at 17 psi... i took it down from the 18 psi my chipped ecu is running, invest in a walbro 255 fuel pump, change your injectors for at least 440's if you can find some for your phase!.....if your happy with that then go for your new ecu and map. have a look at you intercooler too, you have the slanty one?...either go for another upgraded top mount or front mount. good luck, mark
matt_dillon Posted April 27, 2007 Author Posted April 27, 2007 just checked my ecu and the 2 digit code on the top says U8? also got the 'slanty' intercooler. does anyone know whats the better option between the apexi pfc and the ESL live spec ecu?
prodrive tony Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 I'm going Apexi, seems very popular and only £400 on Ebay with hand held controller.[Y]
