The Kid Kendo Posted April 1, 2007 Posted April 1, 2007 Hi lads Got a problem looking at upgrading my turbo but dont know what to go for i have been offered a TD05 20G and a VF34 pretty cheap. Iam looking to run around 400BHP and just looking for some advice on the pros and cons of both turbos. Cheers Kenny
fai17 Posted April 1, 2007 Posted April 1, 2007 20G will get you nearer the 400bhp and the VF34 won't. It depends on your car and spec and also what you want your car to be like?
WUZ Posted April 1, 2007 Posted April 1, 2007 20G gives a smaller powerband on a WRX (7K limiter) which is why it is ideally suited to an STI (+/- 8K limiter) but you WILL need additives to get 400BHP out of one. If your only after tracking or 1/4-miling the car then the 20G is a very good turbo when "on the boil" but it'll only be good on the road if someone who knows them inside out is mapping it (AndyF) VF34 will give around 350 with the same setup as for the 20G but you can get more than that with a set of tubular manifold as well (afair, about 370 is possible). Russell ps - edited as AndyF showed me my error.
craig mac Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 I would be very interested in the VF34 if you are not going to take it[]
andrew_forrest Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 20G is fairly laggy on a WRX and is ideally suited to an STI but you WILL need additives to get 400BHP out of one. Russell I wouldn't say so Russell, my last MY03 WRX runs a 20G and its defo not laggy, thats on std headers though which helps spool up and doesn't seem to trouble it top end as it runs very low 12's on the 1/4m Andy
WUZ Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 My post was poorly worded Andy, so I've edited the post with what I meant to say. It also depends on people definition of laggy (when you see Cal in the morning with his VF35 you'll see what I mean, he thinks that is laggy!) Sorry Guys! Russell
_jac_ Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 20G all day long m8 I know someone that has a vf34 on his wrx and is wishing he got the 20G.
