BLUE V LTD Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 I'm after some help have been looking at de-cat exhausts[] I have a classic shape Nreg 96. Do i need to change centre part and down pipe, or just centre as hoping to fit flamer kit in time. have no problem in having a go at fitting it myself. Also will it pass an MOT with a de-cat on it. ( don't know a lot but willing to find out and learn more [:$] [][] )
granby Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 The classics have 2 cats, downpipe & centre pipe, you will need to decat both if you want a flamer kit to work If it's fully decated then it won't pass the MOT
Dalthegooner Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 You will need to change the downpipe and centre section (So yoiu might as well change the back bos for good measure as well [] as well as change to a VTA dump valve in order for the flamer to work. Check out Hayward & Scott for the exhaust. You will not pass an MOT with a full decat although there are certain places you can go that will sort this for you for a few extra pound notes [] They change your exhaust for one with cats in, MOT the motor then change them back [Y]
Nudge Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 Ive just decatted my classic as well, at first i replaced just the center, diddnt really make much difference, and after having greif with my flame kit i dun the downpipe as well, i now have straight through from turbo back, with the exeption of a resonator in the center section, well worth the fun i had fitting it with limited tooling, sounds great, more pops and bangs and the flame kit makes a bit of wee come out, when its switched on..( thanks to some helpfull peeps on here). only takes an hour to fit a cat for the mot, so go for it BLUE,
BLUE V LTD Posted December 7, 2006 Author Posted December 7, 2006 thanks to everyone [Y]for the info it was very helpful[]. have to save a couple more of those penny things[]. might as well do the whole lot in one go...... [H][*][][]
eurosti Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 Dont want to start an argument here boys but ive cut open a JDM and a UK spec Classic centre pipe there was no cat in either of the centre pipes only the downpipe. Were the later 97 on Classics fitted with a cat in the centre pipe the early one certainly were not.
Nudge Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 Thats exactly what i found in my center section, there is a cat looking box in the pipe but it was hollow inside, i just assumed someone had got there before me and knocked it through. however the downpipe cat comprised of two sections.
BLUE V LTD Posted December 8, 2006 Author Posted December 8, 2006 I'll have a look at the weekend in some day light and see whats under there no point buying centre bit if there is nothing in there. if its noy needed then an early xmas present to myself might be in order. hope its noy raining this saturday ..........[st][um]
leon Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 uk turbos usually have 2 cats unless they are ppp which then they only have a downpipe cat iirc
