RA Dunk Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 thinking about going for a set of custom headers, whats hot and whats not?? quite fancy the GTII Spec or the GruppeS ones, equal or unequal? i dunno you tell me? []
fai17 Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 Either one is good...is SMA01 still got his HKS for sale??
scientific steve Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 you could always save a bit of cash and just get your own ones ported and polished think harvey still does an exchange type of deal
RA Dunk Posted September 13, 2006 Author Posted September 13, 2006 I think they are all the same really??, could somebody clairfy this for us as i thought they were diffrent [:S]
RA Dunk Posted September 13, 2006 Author Posted September 13, 2006 you could always save a bit of cash and just get your own ones ported and polished think harvey still does an exchange type of deal well thats what was originally planned, but thought i might as well go the full distance and get new ones

Polished tubular manifold. Lower Lag times, more power Mirror polished. What about these ? I have seen them go for £450 inc p&p
RA Dunk Posted September 13, 2006 Author Posted September 13, 2006 Hmmmmm, what make are these?? ive been warned to keep away from the ones on ebay as the tend to split after not very long
RS Grant Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 I think the ones to steer clear of on eBay are the 'megan' headers.. pretty sure that the problem was the up-pipe didnt have a flexi and that after time this caused a stress fracture. You pays yer money, you takes yer chances. [] Unless your heading for large 350bhp+ targets, then I'd probably recommend getting your stock headers ported.. as Steve mentioned.. Harvey does these on an exchange basis, they've been tried and tested.... [H] Cheers, Grant
RA Dunk Posted September 14, 2006 Author Posted September 14, 2006 Unless your heading for large 350bhp+ targets,Grant i should be hitting 350+[] next time im home, if everything goes well lol [:|] would there be any diffrence in performance between custom ones and ported ones?
WUZ Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 Do I have to spend another 1/2 an hour explaining all this to you Ac!d..........AGAIN! In terms of fitment, you can fit these onto Newage OR classic Cars between MY97-00 will need a M18 X 1.5 Blanking plug for the Lambda Boss near the U/P connection and Classic Scoobs will need an M10 X 1.25 Blanking Plug for the EGT Boss, but other wise a universal fit. You will find, however, that the Bugeye UK cars (due to the support beam/stiffener) will need a little "fettling" to fit the headers...........I'm sure Craig Mac can elaborate, eh Craig[] I can still get you a set of GT spec II headers if you need them but your putting stuff onto your car that will now guarantee you need a new CLutch and (a new gearbox) in the near future. Let me know what you finally decide on and I'll get it organised.[] Russell
thefastone Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 You wern't using a map to explain it to him Were you Wuz? []
WUZ Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 No M8 (PMSL), I spent a "short time" explaining the best for his car, factoring in age and condition of engine./box and felt that 350 through ported headers would be the most cost effective ie, won't need to source another box (for now[A]) I'll happily fit GT Spec headers and wrap them for him (if Ac!d wants that) but my first priority is to ensure that people get the right info and know what then can get out of their car with what they have. The way I see if....why pay 2K to get 350bhp when you can do it just as professionally for 1.5K. It's not my money but I run the company based on information to all my customers to make the most informed and cost effective choice they can. After all....we rig-pigs just don't get paid like we used to (HA! HA! - who the hell am I kidding[]) Russell ps - Ac!d - LOVE YA BABE! PM me for the GT Spec prices (can't put them on here......................too cheap!)
craig mac Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 You will find, however, that the Bugeye UK cars (due to the support beam/stiffener) will need a little "fettling" to fit the headers...........I'm sure Craig Mac can elaborate, eh Craig[] Russell AYE JUST A TAD[][][] But worth it!!![] Craig
WUZ Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 OK then - then need a bit more than a "wee thockty" but less than a "smidge" of "Beam modification" to fit. Sound about right? PMSL. Russell
RA Dunk Posted September 14, 2006 Author Posted September 14, 2006 well im going to need another gearbox with what ever i do with the headers anyway, so im just as well getting a decent set just now cause when ever the new gearbox goes in ill probs be looking for more horses anyway []
higgy Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 GT spec headers are the way to go . Ive had them on my car for over a year now and iv had no probs with them. As WUZ said for the bugeye there is some cutting to be done but this doesn't take to long. Plus you get a great roar at full pelt. Higgy
WUZ Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 OK Bud - let me know if you need anything! Russell
harvey_smith Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 Just to explain a bit further : O/E Subaru headers without heat shields are all interchangable M/Y 93-06. However, 93-95 had a sensor in the collector and their design was more bulbous, allowing for a gentler exhaust tract. On many of these cars the lambda sensor has been moved to the downpipe when an after market downpipe has been fitted. The hole is obviously plugged. I suspect performance from these headers may be marginally better than from later variants. From about 96 to 00 the headers were the same design as the latest cars. More compact with no sensor hole as the O/E car has the lamda sensor in the down pipe. These headers are a few kilos lighter than the early design. From 01 onwards the design is the same as 96-00 but there is now a sensor hole back in the collector. Porting O/E headers will improve spool and greatly increase gas flow resulting in better power and torque. With tubular headers there is usually a loss of spool but more top end gains. the loss of spool is typically 200-400 rpm. Ported O/E headers with an Option 2 up-pipe are performing well over 400 bhp.
