Yojimbo Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 Hello all, especially those in the Southwest, Had an email exchange with the guys in SIDC membership while trying to find out a bit more about the maintenance side of keeping a Scooby and they suggested I get logged on here. I am now the proud owner of 9 year old imported WRX. [] Silver and pretty much standard, except for the exhaust (which is huge!), it is so much fun. [H] With 250 bhp, I'm not too worried about any modifications...well for the moment anyway. Not a huge fan of the gold alloys though, but I'm sure at some stage I could fill the wheel arches with a little more. Let me know who else is out there. [au] See ya.
graham_crane Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 Welcome to the forums.[]The scoob sounds, Nice. Im To not a fan of gold wheels on scoobies. What area are you from?
scooby princess Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 welcome to the club, i hope you enjoy the events, meets and company of the whole club. I thought i was in a limited few who disliked gold alloys but it seems there are more people who dislike them then i thought.
Yojimbo Posted September 7, 2006 Author Posted September 7, 2006 Thanks for the welcome guys. [] I'm from Somerset, though not born and bred, and without the accent and love of cider (though it isn't bad). [] I guess the alloys are okay being as they come as standard, but certainly a good area to customise. I think that a nice set of gun-metal would do nicely - what size alloy is it possible to go up to? Is there any particular brands favoured?
scooby princess Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 17 and 18 inch alloys seem to be the favourite but i think iirc that if its lowered then you need to be a little more careful. Gun metal are very nice - we have a set of spiders on ours which is split rims with silver and black. Somerset an't to bad, but dont get behind a combine harvester or muck spreader as you will really get the car in a nasty mess! Born and bred in somerset and unfortunatly i can speak with the accent when i want to[:$]
Yojimbo Posted September 7, 2006 Author Posted September 7, 2006 Do you have a picture or your gun-metal alloys? Perhaps my real reason for that colour is that they will look cleaner for longer... [] You are right, Somerset isn't really too bad - the countryside is great and country roads fun - the only traffic jams we tend to get are the odd tractor and cows in the road. I'll watch out for those muck spreaders, I obviously have been fortunate so far. [] And your accent, well it doesn't come through in your emails.
Bob Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 Unfortunatly I cannot post pic's on this site but have posted lots of pic's of Ed and SP's cars on the SWS site. http://www.southwestscoobies.org.uk Most classic owners go to 17" wheels and find these just right some go to 18" but with a 215 tyre as 225 usually touch the rims. Does get more expencive when changing tyres if the 18" are fitted.
scooby princess Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 dont know if this will work but this link shows a close up of one of my spider alloys when cleaned http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b302/SCO...S/TATTON007.jpg
Bob Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 You will have to cut and paste this link....Sorry cannot get links or pic's to work on here. http://www.bob.szhosting.net/images/EdWheel.jpg
Yojimbo Posted September 8, 2006 Author Posted September 8, 2006 Thanks for the links and the pictures! There are some tidy alloys out there! [] Nice spiders! Are they easy to clean? This is great, everyone so keen to show off their motors. Have you all stuck with the standard brake calipers and the standard pads? Bob, checking out some of your pictures (hope you don't mind), that is a flashy motor, what is it, where has it come from and what has been done to it?
jd Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 http://www.bob.szhosting.net/images/EdWheel.jpg welcome to SWS
scooby princess Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 I love the spiders, quite easy to clean and look great even when suffed![] the ones that bob had on the old car were stunning as well one problem to watch out for is make sure they are ok for your car, i bought the spiders off ebay and even though they came off a subaru it was a wrx not turbo 2000 and we have to use spacers on the front end which is not a perfect solution.
Bob Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 Bob, checking out some of your pictures (hope you don't mind), that is a flashy motor, what is it, where has it come from and what has been done to it? Had loads of scoobs...Which one you talking about? MY98, MY2000, P1, Type R LTD, WR1... Have a good look round my pic's think all the porn has been removed...[]
Yojimbo Posted September 11, 2006 Author Posted September 11, 2006 Haha! Not sure I can find the car I was looking again - there are loads of cars in there! [] Do most people take their cars to Subaru garages or do some of the basic maintenance themselves? Are there any workshop manuals around? What trustworthy garages are there in the area?
scooby princess Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 we have a main dealer in bristol (tiley) or swindon (simpsons) and they both offer a discount for sidc members. Intropro are also a local garage - bristol way There are some good workshop manuals and one of those is the Haynes manuals - they have all cars and makes and you might pic one up on ebay. There is also a manual on dvd i believe but i might be wrong on that
steves scooby Posted September 17, 2006 Posted September 17, 2006 welcome to the site m8,sorry mad house[]
