Guest AlanK Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 Just got an MY99 UK Turbo with full PPP (Waggon, PPP, handling pack, EBC Red pads and groove discs) No intention to do anything to it for some time but what would be the first mod on your list that; a) does not spoil an excellent example of an unspoiled classic (only 30K with excellent history) does not cost the earth c) does not turn it into some boy racer bucket d) does not put any undue strain on the engine (e.g. I thought new air filter (green) but was told that crap can leak on to the MAF and cause it to run lean) Ideas appreciated.... Oh yeah - and how the hell do I stop the chips that have appeared in the 4 weeks I have owned it? 6 years and only 1 or 2 marks and now its peppered ( - Anyone got some Silver paint??
RA Dunk Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 probably the most value for money would be a decat downpipe or even better a full decat with a decent ehxaust
frank c Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 Full decat sounds about right...and don't be put off with the Green Cotton filters..There ok..[] Frank
scientific steve Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 quote user="Ac!D" probably the most value for money would be a decat downpipe or even better a full decat with a decent ehxaust /quote yep, i'll go allong with that [][] http://forums.sidc.co.uk/forums/694555/ShowPost.aspx
Guest AlanK Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 I thought about the Decat but put of by the idea of having to change it back for the MOT each year as I am mechancly inept to the Nth profeciency. Was looking at the Magnex set up but I like the look of the PPP box on it and would not want itmuch louder than it already is since I have to park on street in front of the local Chavs.... It has 17s on it at mo but I aint too keen on them - they work as they are big silver things and the car is silver but plan to change these at some point, esp if I can get a good deal on decent rubber and alloy at the same time (as soon as I work out what will fit a Classic as I dont understand wheel size/offet etc) Alan
RA Dunk Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 if you dont want the hassel of changing the D/P for every MOT you can get sports cats but there pretty expensive

spooks Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 Alan was this car bought from Whitburn by any chance? Personally looking at your list of what you dont want to do I would say leave it as is, if its the car im thinking it is its an awesome car and doesnt need anything.
RS Grant Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 I'd be tempted to go for a full compliment of Defi's mate. [] Cheers, Grant
Guest AlanK Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 Yes - it would be a certain whitburn one which is lurvly.. hence my desire to do little that would affect it's...erm...classicness???
bigdavie Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 bigdavies top tip of the week !!!!!! to stop those annoying stone chips on your bonnet etc stop driving so close to cars at motorway speeds lol i jest alan i just bite the bullet and get it painted everynow and then !
Guest AlanK Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 I reckon it was the A68 atfer some of it was resruface - thought I was far enough back but would appear not - respray is on the cards in about a years time I reckon (sooner at this rate) Just cant believe it was so imuculate when I got it and now..... (
craigwrx Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 As bigdavies has just mentioned, most stonechips are cause by driving to close to vehicle in front ... Personaly i am not sure that i would do anything, although maybe add to ur pp back box and tailpipe ( if it hasnt been done already ?) Sounds like a very nice example ...any pics ?
Guest AlanK Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 How do you mean add to the back box? Pics are to b e uploaded as soon as I can find the cable for my camera, hopefully soon...
craigwrx Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 Quote How do you mean add to the back box? Pics are to b e uploaded as soon as I can find the cable for my camera, hopefully soon... Midpipe and resonator section, have just done this myself, gives it a little extra bark and burble [Y]
andrew_lally Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 brakes would help....standard ones are pants!!! regards andy
Guest AlanK Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 Brakes are done (EBC turbo groove discs and red stuff pads (fitted november)) Will look into the mid section changes idea... Cheers
RS Grant Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 Have just changed the centre section in my PPP'd MY99 for a straight through/non-resonated 2.5" Hayward and Scott item and the increase in noise is subtley nicer... Well worth it IMO, specially as I dont want to change from the PPP backbox either. [] Cheers, Grant
