4Hero Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 I was looking around Limassol tonight (well, in Google Earth) and thought this could be great for people travelling abroad for their summer holidays. Can you guys point out any nice places to see (on the off-chance that our lovely sidc members will be going there) or places to buy our home grown goodies? Here's my tip: If you are visiting Limassol (Cyprus) for your hols and looking for a really cold can of Irn-Bru, take a jaunt down to the old town until you see the pier. Right in the middle of the arrow is a shop that sells it [] Here's the Kmz file thing for google earth, ( just go to file then open to open it)
steven_williams Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 Lived out there for 3 years. Can you be more specific in the questions. Limassol is a great location to stay in Cyprus as it is almost central to the Island. You can follow a route East from Limassol to Nicosia (the last divided city in europe), via the duel carriageway. Then from Nicosia parrallel to the green line whic seperates the Greek half of Cyprus from the Turkish half, through to the Troudos mountains this is along normal roads and can be good fun you pass a couple of Cypriate army camps. Stop for a cold drink in the village of Troudos or circle round the side of the mountain and return to Limassol. Approx 250 miles and can easily be done in half a day including 2-3 hours in Nicosia. Then there is the route west through to Paphos via Aphrodites rock, up to coral bay, through to Latchi and Polis then back to Paphos for a meal the return to Limassol for a beer or 3. Paphos has got one (if not the) best go-kart track on the island. Directions would be vague if I typed them out but if needed I could dig out a map and work it out accuratly if needed. Am out there in October for two weeks can't wait to see what has changed. Pity I wont be able to take the scoob as it is now 100bhp higher than when I bought it there and has Tein suspension all round ([:'(][:'(][:'(]). Just enjoy and have fun. BUT be warned the police even though they don't have the ideal pursuit cars I have been reliable informed that the new head of police is ex uk and has taken steps to make it easier for action to be taken against motorists breaking the laws out there. Thank F he wasn't there when I was as I got stopped umpteen times for speeding and only got fined once. Thankfully not for my monthly run round the mph clock.
4Hero Posted July 21, 2006 Author Posted July 21, 2006 thanks for the tip mate, nice place Limassol [] Only saw two shootings in the week I was there, 1 Bank robbery and 1 nutter whooooring around the streets in his car. Policemen were very friendly to the tourists though (as long as you are walking and not robbing banks)
steven_williams Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 When I got nicked for speeding had to go to the guys cop shop. Finding it was a pig (no pun) as it was in a tiny village just in the hills. when I got there he came out to greet me, shook my hand and appologised for getting me to travel to his station, offered me a cyp coffee and biscuit or a cold (soft) drink. Paid up my £35 fine and left after showing him round the car. Following day put her on a boat back to the UK. Could you imagine the coffee budget if the police in the uk treated people in this manner.
