lazscooby Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 I was reading a post by the squirrel on how to reset the ecu on a classic and obtain the fault codes and my question to those in th know is.. can you get the fault codes without having to drive the car. Think the maf has gone but havnt managed to get another to test it and car wont start to do the fault find. cheers
higgy Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 get hold of Fast Scooby as he offered to let u try his maf , and he is in Dunfermline. Higgy
WRC No 1 Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 hi m8 this should help http://www.derekcarswell.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/pages/ecu.htm wullie
lazscooby Posted June 19, 2006 Author Posted June 19, 2006 Big thanks to fast scooby as he did come throo but 95 wrx and 99 uk mafs are different.cheers
lazscooby Posted June 20, 2006 Author Posted June 20, 2006 Just tried the fault find on the ecu but the engine light was just flashing steadily so disconnected the maf and tried again and came back the same! I'm either doing something wrong or im in big trouble.. possible ecu failure? any comments?
bigdavie Posted June 20, 2006 Posted June 20, 2006 dont know the scenario mate but are you getting the basics ? fuel ? spark / compression etc i might have my old maf sensor kicking about mate it was faulty but the car ran with it just fine !! if you want i can see if its still in the garage tomorrow for you and post it to you ??
lazscooby Posted June 20, 2006 Author Posted June 20, 2006 i believe the basics are ok but i'm no car boffin. car starts but cuts out staight away. did this for an hour on friday then decided to start and got home with no probs. went to start it on sat and was doing the same. if you do have a maf that would be ideal. I'll cover your costs.
bigdavie Posted June 20, 2006 Posted June 20, 2006 right i'll have a wee look for it tomorrow mate as i said it was running fine on the old maf just the idle was a wee bit erratic
bigdavie Posted June 20, 2006 Posted June 20, 2006 sorry mate ive hunted high and low for it with no joy her mum may have thrown it out !!!! might have to bite the bullet and buy a maf sensor buddie . i was told from a reliable source that my 99 cars lunch on average 2 maf's a year !! so you would probably have to get one soon anyway davie
WRC No 1 Posted June 20, 2006 Posted June 20, 2006 thats a lot davie i have had the wagon 3 years and still not replaced the maf wullie
bigdavie Posted June 20, 2006 Posted June 20, 2006 aye but yours is an 98 is it not ?? seemingly my 99 /00 are pigs at eating the maf's !! i have it on good authority !!
lazscooby Posted June 20, 2006 Author Posted June 20, 2006 thanks for looking davie but think ive found the problem. i have a clifford alarm with blackjacks which incorparates a fuel guard so turned that off and hey presto it runs. still cuts out now and again. need an alarm boffin me thinks.Cheers to all you guys for your help
bigdavie Posted June 20, 2006 Posted June 20, 2006 well seemingly the my 99 / 00 cars eat mafs !! dunno why they just do !! mine only had its maf for 11 months then needed a new one last month i think and ive seen through its history its had a fair few over the years !!seemingly the earlier cars are ok but my 99 /00 are buggers for it !
