Servicing an import.

Hi all,

I have recently purchased an imported WRX and this week recieved my service and warrenty book from Malta and it says that i have to service my car every 3000miles!  I have been told that there is someone who has a lot of information on this subject who purchased an 05 from Motorpoint (possibly Steve?).

Is there anyone who can help!

Thanks, Ian.

Hello Ian.  I also bought a WRX from Motorpoint last year.  The first thing I done was to register the car with Subaru UK for warranty purposes you will need an EU Certifcate of conformity and a copy of the original invoice from Malta - Motorpoint will supply all of this usually within 4 weeks of purchasing the car if not chase them up.  The car needs a service at 1000 miles should cost £100 roughly to change the oil then at 10,000 mile intervals thereafter and this will keep your warranty valid for the 3 years.  I had all this confimed by Subaru Dealer so should be ok.  I think the 3,000 mile intervals are only for those who love their cars very much and have a lot of money!

I have all the relevant paperwork from Malta and the car has had its 1000 mile service, but the 2 dealers that i have spoken to have both told me that i have to follow the service manual or it will void my warrenty.  I think if you find a sympathetic dealer you havn't got any problems. What dealer did you speak to?

Sounds like sour grapes to me.  Even though the car is an EU import it is a UK spec car.  I go to the Eaglesham garage which is approved by subaru for servicing and repairing.  Give them a phone and they should be able to advise you - 01355 302685 and ask for Ross McPhail.
