failed mot

i couldnt believe when the man told me what it failed on

the exhaust is too loud

i said its passed 2 mot's with it on he said new rules have come in since last year

Did they tell you how loud it was? Such as measure the noise with the appropriate equipment?

The vehicle noise emmissions are down to the individual testers discretion at the MOT to decide whether they deem it to be unsatisfactory or not.

However, if this is going to be an issue at MOT time, then its a bit of a concern as i am currently persuing legal advice after being stopped by the Northern Constabulary for burbling too loudly in their opinion.

My car also failed its mot today...I was sure it would pass!

Only two wee things though so they have been sorted....he said he can't believe it passed legitimately last year on one of them though!

There's no chance the 205 will get one now if my 'good' car fails! Doh!

all he said was that the exhaust noise was clearly an excess emitted by a similar vehicle with a standar exhaust

Take it somewhere else or wack the standard backbox back on in the car park and get him to re-test it. Sounds like he's beeing awkward for the sake of it. My car is quite loud on idle (much louder than a standard car) and mine sailed through the MOT a month a go.

it came with that exhaust on so i dont have a replacement

its past mot's twice with it on before the boy i bought it from said dont know if he's lying or not

Just get in touch with him...say it failed and you were just wondering if he needed to put the old exhaust back on for mots in the past.

If not, ask him where he got it mot'd and give them a try!

i travelled 500 miles to get the car so not going to same garage as him lol

Mine passed yesterday with a C&C 3" custom system and the noise is no wilting flower []

Take it somewhere else - mine was the new style MOT too.

my car is a 1993 wrx and im in aberdeen

i have just looked under the car , its a two piece exhaust . backbox goes striaght to the downpipe with no cat

it did pass all its emmision tests

cancel the offer I'm in glasgow and the box will not fit it's from 05.

In terms of the exhaust, I have a spare STi 6 OE exhaust system you can use to get the car through it's MOT if you need to borrow it? Let me know
