lescazscoob Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 when the car is stationary and you rock the steering back and foth there is a clunking noise. on inspection of the car undrerneath the track rod ends are fine as are the cv"s but the inner bearing of the driveshaft (next to gearbox) has a bit of play could this be the problem? or is there something else i should check? the noise is definately coming from this area of the car just cant put my finger on it. thanks les.
AlanG Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 Are the pins in place which secure the driveshafts to the gearbox shafts? If you can check underneath and see the track rod ends are okay. What about the anti-roll bar bushes? Check the wheel bearings have no play. Check the track control arm bushes for play (get someone to wiggle the steering wheel while you have a look) Might not be underneath at all. Could be the steering column shaft has play in it and could give a clunk. Get your arm down by the turbo and try and check the steering UJ for play.
lescazscoob Posted April 13, 2006 Author Posted April 13, 2006 hi meant to say its a sport checked the wheel bearings they check out ok as are anti roll bar bushes. gear box pins are in place but have a little play. the track control arm feels to me that thats were its coming from could be wrong can feel the clunk when holding it but cant really feel any play in it. very confused.
AlanG Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 Could be the steering rack itself.. maybe check the steering arms when you feel the clunk?
lescazscoob Posted April 13, 2006 Author Posted April 13, 2006 going to a mates tomorrow to let him inspect this further thanks for the help so far. les
