Gumball Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 Parked up the s5oob last night after giving it a good run and noticed that the fuel warning light had come on and the mileage was clocking up towards the 180mile mark meaning "tanks empty piehead, more fuel needed" This morning as i decided to drive to KH and see this 1-3pm track session that was on, i allowed the car to heat up, watched the oil temp rise to the go mark and then once i was happy that it was good to go.............i floored it and the car made a crazy CHUG CHUG CHUG SPLUTTER SPLUTTER on boost. Immediately i had visions of the equipment that i was selling/have sold not being fit for sale and a whole world of pain awaiting me. I was on my way to fill up with optimax and knew that the car had an easy journey to the garage as the light had only just come on. Made it down to the M74 and headed for the east of the city when everytime i tried to keep the speed stable, it couldnt manage it. 70, 60, 50, 40, 30..........im now doing 30 on the M74 and the cars got vapours left. So as i felt for the first time the car run out of effort as the fuel remaining vanished. I pulled into the hard shoulder and turned the car off. SOmeone i knew phoned me at that precise time saying "did i just pass you ???" "yes..please buy me 5 litres of fuel, ive miscalculated having reset the ECU and more power burning more fuel" 5 litres of BP ULTIMATE later i was running off boost to the shell garage i had aimed for to begin with and had endured toots, and get it right up ye salutes from the passing village idiots[:'(] Lesson learned?? 1. Dont let the tank empty completely 2. Booster is fun and gets higher figures but is a nightmare to manage as even in emergencies your scared to use normal fuel. 3. the general populous like to see scoobs "broken/stopped" at the roadside as it seems to make them feel fast again"
chris_c201 Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 D'oh! Even wi Optimax sometimes i feel like i'm playing petrol light bingo..... as soon as i've done about 10 miles in the red i start sweating!
G.T. Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 i didnt know i had a fuel light quarter tank is usually time to fill up again
ANDYJDMSTI Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 lesson 4. Don't get it mapped with booster in the tank lesson 5. don't "nail" it when running on fumes as the "chug chug etc" was probably fuel starvation. PMSL...........u chimp!!! [][]
