baser999 Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 Have started making enquiries but there are some issues that need some feedback please. Date - I would assume that a Saturday is best for most people and having regard to the diary that Dean scheduled out on the back of the newsletter, the earliest convenient date might be 27 May - yes, I know thats 3 months away but as far as I can see its about the first full weekend clear of other events. Means of travel - personally I prefer the shuttle, mainly because its quicker and not so likely to be affected by the weather although I accept the argument that the ferry crossing is all part of the day out. Costs - at this stage its not possible to book the ferry for a day trip more than 28 days in advance - if we were to be going in the next month the cost would be about £30 for a car and 2 adults. The shuttle can be booked in advance and is likely to be in the order of £49 per car, regardless of the no. of occupants. Where to go when we get there? St Omer is comfortably within an hours drive from Calais - there is a large town centre square for parking and plenty of cafes etc around the square. Montreuil-sur-mer , to the south, is slightly further away but can be a pleasant drive if you go down the coast - there are several nice little places along that coast road for eating - Wissant , Wimereux and if the weathers good we could stop at the beach[] Over to you. Could we please keep this thread purely for the France trip. Thank you.
baser999 Posted February 23, 2006 Author Posted February 23, 2006 Meant to add that I'm awaiting to hear from Eurotunnel to see if we could get any sort of group discount - I suggested we might manage 15 cars? Was that a little optimistic?
shrek Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 Barry, we would prefer a Sunday, as I work Saturdays. Jeff
Guest v8voodoo Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 Hate to be a pain, but it seems that most of France is closed on Sundays. Don't ask me how I know.... [:$] Nige.
baser999 Posted February 23, 2006 Author Posted February 23, 2006 That was my feeling as well - I don't even think Cite Europe is open on a Sunday . Lets see what other sort of feedback we get.
markie Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 SHUT on sundays i'm afraid, but if you only want a trip out there for the resturants and get duty free from eastenders that would be fine.
SCOOBYTOO Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 sunday is preferable for me too as i also work saturdays. i will make an enquiry into euro tunnel discount as i know someone who works there.
baser999 Posted February 23, 2006 Author Posted February 23, 2006 The shuttle is Eurotunnel not Eurostar ( which is the Waterloo - Paris passenger service) - are you sure you're not confusing the two?
SCOOBYTOO Posted February 23, 2006 Posted February 23, 2006 sorry yes euro tunnel.......... will speak to my man[Y]
SCOOBYTOO Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 [] after all that my man did work for eurostar.
baser999 Posted February 25, 2006 Author Posted February 25, 2006 That's a bit inconsiderate of him - I don't know, you can't rely on anyone to work where you want them to these days []
ron_white Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 I too know somebody that doesnt work for euro tunnel [][] Will be up for this date and time permiting, will it be a family day out? as we would like to bring the girls with us. ron
Pele Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 Looks like I'd better sort myself out a passport [] RACscooby, all of our trips cater for families wherever possible - we have a lot of family groups within the club and don't like to leave anyone out []
baser999 Posted February 25, 2006 Author Posted February 25, 2006 Afternoon Ron........we'll always try to cater for those with families, as you could tell from our Hastings jolly [] Need a bit of feedback on this thread before we can think about making more positive enquiries about prices etc so keep an eye on it. Incidentally a posting has been made on the East Sussex site and Worzel ( what no aunt Sally [:'(] ) seemed interested about coming along. We'll obviously update you as soon as we have come up with something a bit more definite []
NeVeTaS Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 Hello, sorry for posting in your area Why not go away for a weekend, or a sunday + bank holiday monday. 1 day seems abit rushed a would mean allot of driving. OK I'll leave now before I'm chased out []
ron_white Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 worzel is from the crowbucks[] Aunt sally posts on both crowbucks and sussex, she used to own a classic sport and her parents recently sold an ra[H] trips been posted up on both sites, crowbucks are apart of the sussexscoobies and a very good bunch to boot[] Dont know how to link you to there site so just look on sussexscoobies and you should find it, sorry, Pele met a few K/S at hastings, which is why I decided to visit you on here, normally always got the girls with me but depending on the type of meet sometimes let them stay with the grandfolks[] Sorry to hear about your car[] hope you get a new CLASSIC sooooooooooooooooooooon, look forward to meeting you Ron
granby Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 Hello, sorry for posting in your area Why not go away for a weekend, or a sunday + bank holiday monday. 1 day seems abit rushed a would mean allot of driving. OK I'll leave now before I'm chased out [] I was thinking that myself, there & back in 1 day doesn't sound like too much fun, now if we could stay overnight we can all have a few beers [] Anyway NeVeTaS we won't chase you out as long as i can have a go of your Porsche []
markie Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 Don't want to tread on anyones toes but............... this did start out as a day trip[^o)]. Now i know that it would be a lovely idea to stay over night but there are people who have a family to account for so the costs would probably put them off from joining the trip[] + there are people who would find it difficult to get the time off from work. So i do think it would be better to keep it a day trip instead, i know it would be an early start but we are all used to that with car shows[] and i think we'd have plenty of time to rome about Frogland and even get the duty's aswell[H]. This surely would be the better option for most imho[] Mark. Please dont throw stones i'm only having my say[]
baser999 Posted February 26, 2006 Author Posted February 26, 2006 Theres not been an overwhelming amount of feedback thus far so I think its probably gonna be easiest to organise a day trip, rather than an overnighter although I agree that being able to have a few would be nice . If we travelled out early we'd get a decent enough time 'en France' to have a ride round, stop for dinner and duty frees. Could I set the ball rolling by proposing a date(s) and preferred route and then if others want to add their names to it with some indication of numbers travelling Barry (plus 1?) 30 April / 28 May Shuttle
baser999 Posted February 26, 2006 Author Posted February 26, 2006 Just realised, the day after my first suggestion, the 1 May , is the May Day holiday so that might not be such a good idea?
ron_white Posted February 27, 2006 Posted February 27, 2006 Day trip would be sufficient for us too,[H] A night stop over sounds a good idea but, as has been said may get a bit more expensive for the people that want to take famalies along. Us included. ron
granby Posted February 27, 2006 Posted February 27, 2006 Looks like I'd better sort myself out a passport [] And a car would help aswell []
baser999 Posted February 27, 2006 Author Posted February 27, 2006 .................especially if she's supposed to be chauffering you about []
