lescazscoob Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 hello all! just had car serviced at beg of week but hubby says when hes been driving clutch has been slipping? never happend to me (must be his driving lol) but we were told put it in 3rd at 3000revs and if it pulls its ok but it is doing this? is this time for new clutch or just his bloody driving? caz xx
paddy247 Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 Under load or on boost, If its slipping you will see a sharp rise in your revs with not much increase in your speed, you will hear it reving out also.
wilky Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 Okay in plain english, when you nail the accelerator to the floor and drive it like you have just stolen it, if the revs increase freely and dont seem to be helping the car to go faster, your clutch is slipping. Another way of looking at it is if the engine seems to rev but is letting go of putting power on the road. Its quite obvious when it happens. If your car is standard or just modified slightly then you will get away with putting a bog standard clutch back in it, if you live on the west coast then Greersport in Beith can do this for you at a sensible price. Hope this helps. Callum W
G.Mac Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 Yes Greersport is a good bet, Friendly bunch who make you feel welcome and have good prices.....ps Wilky car looking good (bet your looking forward to blasting round the back roads on Bute again!!!!) Graeme
McGoo Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 I found that the slippage started in 4th and 5th gear. If cruising at say 3k revs and you push the accelerator down for more oomph, the engine will rev up and you'll hear the engine rev along with the rev counter going up but the car doesn't react - nothing to the wheels. I would get it seen to pronto if this is happening now coz I was told that continually driving like this can affect the flywheel also. << If your car is standard or just modified slightly then you will get away with putting a bog standard clutch back in it, if you live on the west coast then Greersport in Beith can do this for you at a sensible price. >> I've just had Greer's fit a new clutch to mine. Recommended. << ps Wilky car looking good (bet your looking forward to blasting round the back roads on Bute again!!!!) >> Wilky - are you an islander ??? Didn't know that. I'm from W.B. Had plenty of wee jaunts round the tarmac of Bute, great roads just a ferry away ( although getting there via Cowal is much better fun )
wilky Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 Yes Bute is a great place to drive, I took the Squirrel and the LHFOJ across a couple of months ago, they were very impressed. I was going to orginise an Island Extravaganza for the summer after the RB relay, unfortunatley I am resigning my membership after the relay so that wont be happening. Callum W
paddy247 Posted February 2, 2006 Posted February 2, 2006 Please excuse my over technical explanation lol but as the rest of the guys say, just nail it. As the guys say greer sport down the glasgow way, or AWD MOTORSPORT are good and probs closer to you, AWD Perth 01738 633336
