Easy tiger! M8, I am only having a laugh with Gummy Bear! I have never and will never be like that! I may be working in India, but these guys get loads of respect from me ( more than the Americans over here give them!) and I have NO-ONE wanting to leave my crew (unlike asome of the other crews, with American Drillers) My guys love me because I respect them! Russell ps - sad thing is that these ar$eholes treat others badly because they were treated badly. GROW UP! Someone need to break the chain of abuse. Make THESE PEOPLE start the change and then we can make this industry come out of the dark ages! RANT OVER!
RA Dunk Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 lol you should meet one of my toolpushers m8 ..this guy $h!T$ a set of slips and a chain tong every morning!! which company are you with BTW?? im transocean
WUZ Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 SURPRISE! SURPRISE! - SO AM I Working on a Drillship in India! Russell
WUZ Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 I feel this is going a little off topic so................. I think 10/60 is too thick in the summertime and well too thick in the winter time. Limit yourself to a 50W top end. There is no real correlation between top end viscosity and engine damage but if an Oil pump has to work harder to push oil around then it will fail sooner, AGREE? Russell
RA Dunk Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 sounds like a good enough explanation to me..i just bought 5 litres of millers 10/60 last week as thats what was recomended to me from wallace performance!!
paddy247 Posted November 24, 2005 Posted November 24, 2005 I still think 10w/60 is fine, The diference in viscosity at 100 Degrees centigrade between a 50 and a 60 is 4 or 5 centistokes, I dont think this would induce an oil pump to fail. I know of many a car that performe well on it and are relliable.

I know of many a car that performs well on it and are relliable. >> All well and good but what is the Oil Pressure when the engine is running (NOT AT IDLE EITHER) as you'll find that a 60W runs about 1/2 a BAR more pressure than a 50W. I NEVER SAID IT WOULD INDUCE A PUMP TO FAIL - I SAID ITS WOULD MAKE IT WORK HARDER THEREFORE REDUCING ITS WORKING LIFESPAN! 10/60 is no problem on a TRACK CAR or a DAILY THRASHED car, but not really effective on a day-to-day runner with the wekend thrash being all the abuse it gets. I'm sure it'll be fine but it's just my 2 pennies worth! Russell
paddy247 Posted November 24, 2005 Posted November 24, 2005 There is a lot of things that can increase or decrease oil pressure. oil weight, filters, engine clerances, outside temp, ect ect, Personally I like the protection offered by a 60, over a 40 or 50, it also helps to maintain oil pressure, I use my scooby for the school run, Fast road, and 14/ mile, all on 10w/60 in 3 years ive never lifted a spanner to my engine apart from its regular service and could speek for a good few hundred others im aware off. Just my say Cheers for your input Russell, you cana beat a good old debate with opinions and views fron all angles
harry_hood Posted November 24, 2005 Author Posted November 24, 2005 what about millers 5/50 .mates got a gallon in his shed,he used to use this stuff in his audi quattrro
WUZ Posted November 25, 2005 Posted November 25, 2005 5W cold viscosity is a little too thin for my liking but I am sure others on here have used it. Try it out, it'll be fine during the winter anyway where thinner cold viscosities are better. Due to the weather, I am switching from a 15/50 to a 10/50 to help with very cold starts, running in Winter, etc. Russell
craigdmcd Posted November 25, 2005 Posted November 25, 2005 I believe that 5W is the prefered oil if the car is a New-age Subaru, wheras classics are recommended to run 10w.
harry_hood Posted November 26, 2005 Author Posted November 26, 2005 lol so who is wantin tae buy a 5 litre of millers 5/50 then bargain £25
WUZ Posted November 26, 2005 Posted November 26, 2005 Cupraderv, if your running your car everyday (ie, not leaving it for a week at a time), then the 5W/50 will be fine for running through until the hot summer we will no doubt have round here (yeah!, right!) Russell
harry_hood Posted November 26, 2005 Author Posted November 26, 2005 lol nae hassle ,i have bought a millers 10/50 anyway cheers
