mark_rushforth Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 Hello peeps, can anyone shed any light on this. If i don't run the car regularly ,leave the alarm armed(also 24hr tracker fitted)and leave it 4-5 days without starting, the battery runs flat. Took it to Eden Subaru about 3 months ago and explained the situation, they checked it out(thanks russ)and couldn't find anything wrong so just charged it 4 me. They said that on post 03 cars they are equipped with smart-charge which only charges the battery a certain amount. Is this the norm with the newer models or is it a new battery required. Any help most appreciated as it's getting right on my tits! cheers.
AlanG Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 Could be the battery back-up in the alarm system which is draining the car battery. What is happening is the battery in the alarm, cause it isn't holding a charge, constantly tries to charge itself up on the main battery. Only cure is a new battery for the alarm back-up. Not sure if it's DIY or not but wouldn't think so, being a Cat 1 alarm. Worth suggesting to your dealer.
mark_rushforth Posted September 4, 2005 Author Posted September 4, 2005 Thanks for that, will let the garage know when i book it in for a service next month, get them to look into it.
john_wilson5 Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 I am a newbie to this , so only seen your message tonight. Had the same problem. RAC Trakstar fitted to car was pulling too much power from main battery, I had to have the unit replaced via Trakstar. This was a fault found in the Trakstar unit. Eventually the car was taken to Halleys where RAC Trakstar replaced the unit free of charge. I have an 04 plate STI. Trakstar admitted to the fault. This may be the same problem you are having. Hope this helps.
evobaz Posted October 24, 2005 Posted October 24, 2005 If you're not using the car regularly and have a garage with power in it invest in a Draper Battery Master (£20 from Halfords). Open bonnet. Attach 2 crocodile clips to battery. Close bonnet. Plug in Battery Master. Job done. Car will start first time no matter how long you leave it.
