following on from an earlier post about what brakes to go for (cheers for the help :occasion14: ) my brakes (standard 4 pots) now need done and so i was gona go for:

(front) brake tech performance discs drilled n grooved 295mm £159 from aztec performance

(rear) brake tech performance discs drilled n grooved 290mm £159 from aztec performance

mintex 115 pads for the front and rear (not searched for best price yet)

stainless steel brakelines all round (not searched for best price yet)

new brake fluid

so now my list of questions!!

has anyone used these discs and pads before and opinions?

do those rear discs fit the hawkeye as they are only list for MY01-MY05?

do i really need to upgrade the rear disc over standard as will never be going on track?

are the mintex pads worth it over aztecs kevlar fast road or the standard subaru ones, or are there better pad options ebc, ferrodo etc?

which brake fluid to use?

and lastly will i notice a considerable improvement over the standard discs and past?

i know its a lot of questions but cheers for any help/opinions!

cheers jebus

You will definately notice a big difference over the standard discs and pads.

You should PM Craig (rig-pig) as he has discs and pads from aztec, I'm sure he was very happy with them as he recommeded them to me.

When I was getting all my brakes done at RA motorsport they used DOT 5 brake fluid so thats probably good to go for.

I would double check by phoning the company jus to make sure that the rear discs will fit a hawkeye, if they only list up to MY05 it might mean they only do for the 100PCD cars and as the hawk will be 114 PCD they will not fit.

Hope that has been of some use, I'm sure if anything I have suggested is wrong somebody with more knowlege will correct me.

I wouldnt put a drilled disc on my car as they have a tendancy to develop cracks across the holes. Grooved would have been my choice.

Used mintex 1155 pads on my 4 pots with ebc grooved & drilled discs , i have to say i think they were a cracking combination , when i require new pads it will be the mintex again , although the 1155 are harsh on your discs.

i have the slotted ones from aztec also got the kevlar pads as they were free at the time had them on for one run and changed them out, very good for every day and a wee blast but not a good run,

i changed them to mintex with good results also i changed to DOT 5.1 fluid when changing discs, if you are changing your fluid use 5.1 as DOT5 dosnt mix with DOT3 or 4 as its synthetic, spenno it would have been 5.1 in yours

this is the discs i have from them, had them on about 2 years and not had any probs at all (apart from a sticking piston)

i painted the centres black

Your probably right Craig but Andy said it was Dot 5 IIRC and not to mix 4 and 5 is they are not compatible. Will use 5.1 to be on the safe side in future lol

for road use i would stick with mintex 1144's great pads and not as sore on the discs unless your really working them hard, try Alyn at AS performance, great prices and really knows his stuff!

upgrading the rear pads defintely worth it, rear discs you wont notice so much but theyl look great :D

and the gb270 is 5x100 pcd so the same as all other newage wrx's, only sti's that gained 5x114 ;)
