za - sti Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 have a kit to convert the rear sliding calipers to Tyre R 2 pots with the larger discs The internal diameter of the larger discs is also larger by 20mm - how do you get the handbrake to work?? I am assuming that the adjustment would make up the difference. any help gratefully received cheers Alex
scoobywho Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Different shoes probably. I remember seing a conversion kit on ebay
arch Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Alex you need the bigger shoes that Ian godney does. But to be honest for what the shoes cost you would be far better changing the rear hubs to newage WRX hubs, that way you can fit the 2 pots and retain your R160 rear end.
arch Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 http://bbs.scoobynet.com/full-cars-breaking-for-spares-438/879898-fresh-in-for-breaking-2006-2-5-wrx-sl-hawkeye.html If you retain your current hubs you will also have to chop or remove the back plates, which is a good idea anyway regardless of what hubs you use.
wilky Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Where have you been hiding za? Havent seen you on here for ages!!!
za - sti Posted May 17, 2011 Author Posted May 17, 2011 Thanks Arch, whats the benefit of the Newage hubs, i assume they are wider but if they only accept the R160 shafts dont see the benefit will be changing to R180 i think sooner rather than later as have a rear diff issue at mo. cheers alex
za - sti Posted May 17, 2011 Author Posted May 17, 2011 christ someone remembered by porn name! hows it going - yep still knocking about 11 years of subaru ownership, only 3 years on the road! been doing the sprints and hillclimbs largely but not for a while, trying the get the car up to a decent spec but everything i do to improve it seems to make another problem was up at Time attack at the weekend, good turnover of scoobs for that - should have brought my tools
arch Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 The only reason to use Newage WRX hubs is if you want to easily fit the 2 pots and retain the R160 diff and shafts. If not then go for newage STI 100 PCD rear hubs and shafts and find an R180 diff.
za - sti Posted May 17, 2011 Author Posted May 17, 2011 cheers arch - i have a R180 diff and shafts so just need to get the hubs
za - sti Posted May 18, 2011 Author Posted May 18, 2011 cheers Archie, i have checked that out so hopefully get something on the rear brakes - could you not just fit newage 290mm rear discs and these have the 170mm internal diameter as opposed to the 190mm on the Tyre r discs?? as I see what you mean re Godspeeds shoes - very pricey ps when you next out cheers alex
