05WRX Posted February 26, 2011 Posted February 26, 2011 Is there any way to sort this. I have heard it's a common problem. Can they be rebuilt, or will i need to replace it. Car is 2005 WRX.

mystery machine Posted February 26, 2011 Posted February 26, 2011 They can be re-greased, but they'll just keep failing - 'tis a design flaw. If you can afford to, bin them and fit something better (coilies).

Is this possible with classic shocks? I know its only a temporary measure but mine are doing my head in.
Alastair Posted February 26, 2011 Posted February 26, 2011 I think this is just the newage strut, if I was for both I think they would have said just strut,,,but I don't see why you could not try Fix 1 as a temp repair.. Maybe worth a try........
arch Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 Greasing the struts doesnt work. It will help for about 1-2 weeks then the knock will come back, its wear in struts. The only thing worth checking is that there is no wear in the rear top mounts and that everything is tight at the top mount.
rig-pig Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 better just getting a new shock m8, OR get a set of BC's a shock and a set of lowering springs will be around £300 if you get the stuff i will give you a hand fitting it
05WRX Posted February 27, 2011 Author Posted February 27, 2011 Cheers for the replies. I can live with it for now. Plan to get coilovers at some stage.
arch Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 Plan ahead as it will prob fail an MOT as the movement can normally be felt.
Dougs Scoob Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 I tried the temp WD40 fix but it made it worse. If the strut is knocking, apart from doing your head in whats the worst that can happen if you leave it?
