granby Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 After my engine blew I've been pondering what to do with my wagon, now I'm not gonna chuck money at it again so whatever i do has got to be cost effective, I've narrowed it down to 4 options which are listed in my order of preference 1. sell the car as it is, yes i would lose money on it but it would mean i didn't have to spend money on it and move onto something else 2. 2.5 engine, it wouldn't be such a high power engine with maybe a smaller turbo but it would be tuned for torque and spool early and not pushed to the limit 3. get a 2.0 STi short block and add all the bits off my engine 4. 2.1 stroker engine, get my CDB repaired and build a high power stroker engine, this would be the most expensive option though I would also like to say a big thank you to everyone that has offered me goods or services and general encouragement over the last few weeks
col_2 Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 my honest opinion would be. forget the track days, forget the drag strips, forget the high expence, leave that to the racing drivers i would stick what ever you can in your car & just enjoy driving it, then arrange fun days out, to the pub, to the sea side, to the curry house, bowling, ice skating, treasure hunts etc etc etc
scoobienut6 Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 stick an sti engine in it mate, 280 bhp is till a lot of fun.

prodrive tony Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 Its hard to say without figures on the options and with what you have spent on it already?? Any rough quotes on these options as that will be the deciding factor??
scoobytibs Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 whatever you do hope it turns out for the best mate ..
gary may Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 whatever you do hope it turns out for the best mate .. i did'nt know what to say but all the best with whatever you do with your car..........(fix it )
bmwhere? Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 1. DO NOT SELL THAT CAR! You put way too much work into it, you'll only regret it 2. 2.5 is a very nice and torquey engine, but as its just a bored out 2.0 block, you'll never get the power figures you had before with any decent level of reliability! 3. Probably the most cost effective upgrade that you'll be genuinely happy with. 4. You know you want to
krud Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 You have put so much love into that wagon - how would you really feel six months down the road if you had sold it? What about the pleasure you have had from it over the years? You are probably a bit biased towards the negative at the moment. What about all that precision parking training you have received from the Squadron Leader? You need to remain operational in order to maintain such highly-honed skills!! Good luck with whatever you decide, Ian !!
loonybin Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 have it repaired what ever way your pocket can aford.
Nudge Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 I'd go for a sti bottom end or a forged short engine, and add heads cams and bits on. or rebuild it using your crank, rods, but it all comes down to the time issue, whatever option you choose it will cost you money, but selling her as she lies will cost you more in the long run as you will lose the most that way. good luck whatever decision you make, need a hand with anything giz a shout...
gary may Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 you could always get a classic and join the good looking classic crew
