brunty Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Hi Guys, my other half works in Swindon during the week. She's got a MY04 WRX with a few bolt ons, but has got some sort of coolant problem. It has some symptoms of a HGF, but could just be a large air lock. I bled the system thouroghly a couple of weeks back, so unfortunately it could have a problem. So, is there a good reputable (preferably non-dealer) specialist down there that could diagnose/fix the problem without trying to rip off a poor girlie? Alternatively, if there's someone techy minded local to Swindon centre that could have a look in exchange for tea and biscuits... Cheers, Brunty
tazman Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 (edited) don't know swindon sorry she could try Subaru4you in newbury its only a short drive away hth Edited April 20, 2009 by Tazman
trooper Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Try this. remove radiator cap when engine is cold and then start the car. look into coolant tank and look for bubbles. if bubbles apearing in the tank then you have an air leak and not an air lock. if no bubbles then sorry not sure without taking a proper look remind her to replace radiator cap before driving off!
edmondo Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 pop it along to the meet on Friday and there will be plenty of people to diagnose and help
brunty Posted April 21, 2009 Author Posted April 21, 2009 pop it along to the meet on Friday and there will be plenty of people to diagnose and help She comes home on Friday We're arranging a car swap so I will have a proper look next week. I got her to bleed the coolant system last night, but strangely the coolant seemed to be pouring out from the middle of the car (the exhaust) once the engine was warm. I've seen the website for Subaru4you and will have that as a back up incase we can't get the car home. Cheers guys Brunty
trooper Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 sounds like you've split the block! wouldn't risk her driving that distance before getting it looked at professionally
