simon_mcwilliam Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 I have bought new bucket seats with both side & base mountings, now what I want to know is what are the rules regarding bolting the side mounts to the floor? do I need extra plates etc in the floor pan?. Also the original seat belt mount is on the seat, so again what are the rules regarding fitting eye bolts for the drivers left & passenger right harness points. I am doing the car safety features as per time attack (clubman)spec/hill climb etc regs, the seats are FIA approved & the harnesses will be when I order them, so ideally the seat frames will also meet FIA spec. If I base mount can I still use subaru seat runners etc & fab some brackets/plates to fit the bucket seats, if so will this meet the regs?
arch Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 I had my side mounts bolted to a standard set of seat rails without any scrutineering issues in the Scottish hill climb and sprint championship last year. It did raise the seat height slightly too high to be honest but as long as the seat is secure you should be ok. It is better however if you can weld in bars to mount the side mounts to, demon tweeks do them with floating mounting nuts. Just screw the eye bolts into the captive nuts on the chasis at either side of the seat and to the two seat belt captive nuts at the rear and you will be fine. From memory I think you need a 4 point harness from this year on.
