Scooby Hoo? Posted March 7, 2009 Author Posted March 7, 2009 (edited) "Would the car become a Kent pinned thread." The above point is valued and not something I have considered and would need to be given careful thought. With regards who (Hugh) does what, all regular maintenance would be done on a workparty day ie each person has to do say 2 half days a year, oil change, filters etc. More technical things could be contracted out say to Dean and major items such as engine rebuilds might go to RCM. I wouldn't expect (want) all ten members turning up at the same trackday so a rota allowing everybody the same car time would be draw up. With regards people finding money for that unexpected bill I would factor in £500 per year, paid at the beginning of the season, giving a £5000 working fund. A clear contract of all expectations would be drawn up so that there would be no misunderstandings. I have been in these kind of groups before and there are no problems when the conditions are all laid out. If the car becomes a right off we use the insurance to rebuild or split the money. col_2 Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 there are other ways of doing it & still help funding it. 1. 10 owners like hugh said or 2. 1 owner & members who dont like to take there cars on track but wish to go on track, could use the track car for £100, that way you would have more funds comming in & on going & you would have more than ten members in the club who would like to do it or have the chance of doing it, & all the money being put into kent scoobies funds & used on the car as needed, & if the track car is all fine & the funds are at a limit, then you can do reduce rates, depending on how many track days the car does, i dont think it would take too long to get to the amount of funds required.... just a thought

Scooby Hoo? Posted March 8, 2009 Author Posted March 8, 2009 (edited) OK I will carry out a feasibility study into the accounts of running a car for one year and submit a brake down of costs to allow people to evaluate the financial implications of running a car as a group. But just for now if you take your own car to Brands say three time a year basic costs would look something like this. Track time £149 x 3 = £447.00p Insurance £60 x 3 = £180.00p Fuel say 60lts £60 x 3 = £180.00p Oil/filters fluids £20 x 3 = £ 60.00p Tyre wear £100 x 3 = £300.00p Sub total £1167.00p If we done six trackdays of 5 people working on Dean cost we would be looking at £ 504.00 x 6 = £3024.00p In addition to this add 3 drivers(Dean has allowed for 1 more) @ £35 = £105 x 6= £ 630.00p Insurance say an extra £60 x 6= £ 360.00p Extra fuel say 100lts overall £ 100.00p Sub total £4114.00p Making a cost of £414.00p for three trackdays I make that around about £750.00 cheaper. This is a cost for cost comparison and no allowance for wear and tear and I do think Deans cost's are well considered. Edited March 8, 2009 by Scooby Hoo?
baser999 Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 It was a nice idea Hugh but sorry, it'll never work m8y. Its going to rely too heavily upon each of your syndicate members being able to continually fund the running of the car and with the way things are at the moment how many on here can say that they can? Your costings are probably fine but if the engine goes bang or someone runs it into a wall its human nature for anyone not immediately involved to say 'why should I pay. . .not my fault it blew up. . . wasn't me who wrote it off' and it's at this point the problems will start, regardless of what the members agreed to at the outset. Who's going to want to take out some form of civil action against another syndicate member/Kent Scoobies mate to recoup their share of costs because he doesn't want to pay up or perhaps can't afford to?
Scooby Hoo? Posted March 9, 2009 Author Posted March 9, 2009 Guys I can fell the sand slipping between my fingers here. This has got to be the deal and chance of a life time. There must be seven other like minded Kent Scoobie members out there who would love the chance to be part of this. If you are serious, and some are, PM me.
