mavthelab Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Hello all, After a few years of impreza absence i am about to repurchase and am getting excited! My old car was a standard uk turbo x reg which i owned from new and loved every second. I sold for various job/house renovation reasons, all of which are now passed. This is a second car which my wife will drive as well as me, and it is for mainly weekend use. I might track the car say 5 times a year for a bit of fun but will try and look after it with some occasional middle to fast ish driving as I like to buy a car and run it carefully until the end of its life. I am now looking at getting a 55 plate uk sti with ppp and about 40k on it, but have the following questions: 1. How many miles does an sti engine last for with the ppp package. I appreciate the answer depends on how it has been treated, but i'm looking for an average. Have heard stories that they tend to go about 70k miles. is this true, if so is it easy to get a replacement engine, how much does it cost and is it worth it? 2. is it best to do some moderate motor way miles onto the engine in between quicker bursts to maintain the life - i dont mind how many miles it has on it as long as it keeps going! 3. I'm looking for some black prodrive alloys to go on the car. Where is a good place to start looking? 4. Insurance. My current insurer is quoting £1,400. Im 31, 3 points for mobile useage, car kept in garage/drive, domestic/commuting use, not too bad an area. I have 4 years no claims but on a car i'm keeping. This seems steep. Any advice gratefully rec'd. 5. I'm in Kent. Are there any good service places people can recommend. What about track days??? Any advice gratefully received. Many thanks

Many thanks I hope that you are or can be "A grumpy old git" if you are then this is the wrong club for you Answers to questions: 1 There are some great cars out there at sensible money at the moment. You could well get a 55 plate around 25-30k on the clock. As Col-2 said look at the service record and compare service/mileage. Check for panel repair, wheel/tyres wear, disc/pads, and the shocks. You might even find a nicely modded model out there. Price could be as low as £4800 for high mileage through to £8500 for a nice mod model. Do your homework and don't be affaired to haggle. Scoobynet is a good place to start looking or here. 2 Haven't see this mentioned anywhere before. 3 Scoobynet or E-bay you could buy s/hand and go to Lepsons for a refurb (refurb I think was about £50 per wheel) so bear that in mind if you go s/hand route. 4 Insurance phone Gary Moulson at Keith Michaels 0845 013 8231 quote your SIDC membership number and get extra discount. 5 Never recommend only say ask around. And last but not least welcome

As long as the engine is serviced as required and you let it warm up properly before you boot it, it should last many thousands of miles, there is always the odd one that will let go sooner rather than later but generally they are a reliable engine 3. I'm looking for some black prodrive alloys to go on the car. Where is a good place to start looking? In the for sale sections of all the major forums or ebay 4. Insurance. I'm in Kent. Are there any good service places people can recommend. What about track days??? Deano 666 on here for most work, he is used by many of us (including me) and can come to you if needed, also Kent Performance seem to be doing some good work lately, as for track days have a look in the track days & national events section on this forum Edited January 28, 2009 by Granby
