I right i will keep it short as im screwing!!

just got home, parked on drive, which is in centre of my close/culdersac . was playing about with new stereo (on silent) but just pairing to bluetooth.

one of the neighbours come out tapping on the window. asking me to turn it off as they couldnt hear their TV !!!

now my car was only ticking over, and is a good 15 - 20 meters from their front door let alone their tv.

She said "is there now way you can turn that off" to which i just said no, its on a turbo timer .

she then proceeded to say that "her and the other neighbours are fed of of the loud noise early in the morning" (7:15 am) when i go to work "and late at night" anbout 6:00 pm when i get home lol

in the morning i start it to warm car, but also to scrape off all the ice and clear screen with heaters , as everyone else does, eveing i just park up and come indoors.

Car is 01 wrx with only stainless exhaust and panel filter, admittedly second cat is gone .... but its not loud and i never rev itpast 2k till im out the close and half way down the road.

wanted to tell her to jog on and mind her own f'ing business, but they are the type to be straight onto council or whoever.

How can i find out my legal standings before i go show her what some real exhaust noise is all about! baring on mind its only on tickover, and she reckons she cant hear her tv.

Well by the sounds of it she needs to get a life?

I can't answer the question about noise as i'm not sure of the legal limit in this country(I'm Australian)

I had a simlar problem to this by my neighbours. My brother had a Skyline and I had an Evo 4 at the time, both with straight through systems. No Cats and just a single rear silencer..

Now she used to complain all the time about the noise when we used to start them in the mornings (My brother left at 7.30am and I left for work at 8.30) Both were under the legal limit.

How do I know because she made a complaint to the local residence assosiation, then they all complained in our street and sent the police around with a DB metre....

Mr Plod couldn't do anything as they were both under the legal limit of 94db!

Have to say she was livid about the situation! Mind you her yougest child used to make more noise than both cars combined when he started crying!! Her little man was a right screamer!

Well i'd check out a government site DVLA or similar and see if you can find the noise levels? Other wise hopefully someone else knows?

cool cheers. does anyone in uk know limits, wheter i could be close (but i doubt it) and how i could freely get it tested with out mr plod coming round and impounding vehicle kind of thing.... can i go to a test centre?

I no a nut spec r is too loud Bradley hence my letter from the council I think the limit is 94 or 96db

what did you do? did you get it tested? how did council prove yours was too loud?

Surely it wouldnt pass the mot if it illegaly loud, might be worth asking your local mot station, will ask my bro in law aswell as the have an mot tester guy at his work.

Firstly make sure all your mods are listed with your insurance! We had the same problem where I live - I have an RA with a 3" system which is very loud and the Tony had a TSL Firestorm which was almost as loud. Now neither of us used to start up our cars before 8.30am and very rarely came home after 6, never sat there idling just used to go straight away then take it easy. Next thing we know is that we have a petition signed by most of the 98 residents of the flats opposite for us to get rid of our cars! It quoted that we were sitting out there at 3am with the engines running, wheelspinning and racing up and down the road. I went and had a word with the caretaker and told her the residents need to get their eyes and ears tested as the cars making all that noise were in fact a Corsa and an Astra with boy racer drivers who had mates in the flats and thought that every stop and start was a race hence all the revving and wheelspinning, and the only thing Japanese on the cars were the HKS stickers!!! Well we haven't heard anything since and the only way the police can impound your car is if it is blatantly illegal in any way, you owe money on it lol or you refuse to let them take a look at it when they ask.

You should ivite Shiralee around with hers as it's almost as loud as mine was lol then they will have something to complain about
