Jack Car Up To Do Sensor?

I got my replacement Lambda sensor in the post today and was getting a mechanic m8 to do it but he's let me down - I know it just screws in one end and plugs in to the grey plug just at the drivers side of the car and I did do a few sensors on my previous FTOs so I think I'll try this one too!

The question is - do I do it from underneath the car, removing the plastic undertray I assume, or can it be done from above if you remove a few things?

The bracket on it had snapped and the cable was swinging loose but the place I got the replacement one (2nd hand subaru genuine part) from also has the bracket included :P Will I need to give the nut a spray with WD40 in the morning before I try to remove it in the afternoon?

Also - will the CEL light go off after a few starts and drives (i.e. self diagnostic) when I fit a working sensor or does it need cleared?

TIA for any help - I have Hypertech on standby to fit it on Saturday if I get stuck tho! These things are never as simple as I think they will be!

Pretty sure you're gonna be better going from underneath as IIRC the lambda isn't at the top of the downpipe like it is on the Classics.

done mine recently and you are best to change the sensor from underneath, i did'nt jack the car up, i just turned the wheels to the right and got in that way.

it is a bit fiddly especially as the wire keeps turning when you are tightening the sensor, but fairly easy job.

I have a secs monitor which can reset my ecu, so i cleared the fault that way, not sure if it will automatically reset, unless you disconnect the battery for a wee while then that should reset the ecu.

cheers guys - I think the newage ECU has to be reset - can't just take the battery off like the "olden days" when cars were easier lol :lol:

I think, and this is only a "think", that the CEL light should go off after 4 restarts once the fault condition has been rectified - ie you have replaced the faulty sensor with a working one - however the fault code will remain logged in the ecu as a historical fault and will remain there until it has been cleared by a diagnostic tool of some description. :lol:
