quagmire Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 Hi, Just a warning to all those of us wearing small number plates on our cars. I live in the Rainham area and have just had the plod knocking on my door giving me a week to change my plate. The officer said he passed me on the lower Rainham road OVER A WEEK AGO and has now had time to visit me at home to give me the dimensions of the correct sized number plate i should have on the car. Aparantly it's not petty and they are cracking down on these type of plates. He also said he will be back to my house in a weeks time to check its been changed and if not he will issue me with a fixed penalty.... what a nice man! Oh and apparantly its for my own good as if the car is stolen a camera won't pick it up as stolen and the police will not be able to return my car.....it's a shame that never worked on my old car which was stolen and burnt out!! Be warned
BrianD Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 Thanks for the warning fella just saved me £14 on buying a mini plate
quagmire Posted May 20, 2008 Author Posted May 20, 2008 Thanks for the warning fella just saved me £14 on buying a mini plate No probs. Me thinks they have too much time on their hands!!
granby Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 Well at least they came around and warned you instead of just giving you a fixed penalty
quagmire Posted May 20, 2008 Author Posted May 20, 2008 Well at least they came around and warned you instead of just giving you a fixed penalty True. And that part i don't mind but it's the way you get spoken to sometimes by them.... it's a number plate not a small arms cache in my garage. Bit of politeness never hurt anyone.
20withascooby Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 well im fitting mine on sunday lol 9x3 inches and a nice little picture on it lol guna keep other one under passenger mate should i get pulled it will be appearing in the window v.quickly lol
mikkers Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 The fact that front facing speed cameras arnt able to pick you up never came into it of course. Good old plod, always thinking of the motorist. Dunks had to change his plate too. The sooner you bunch of dangerous criminals are locked up the better

20withascooby Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 think his was the spacing not the size been told though imports are allowed smaller plates
mikkers Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 Special that Dunks he even looks like an arms smuggler. You're right, definatly a dodgy looking chap
mikkers Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 think his was the spacing not the size been told though imports are allowed smaller plates Yes, it was spacing. Dimensions for plates on imports are different, but not a lot smaller. Definatly not 9x3!
20withascooby Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 mines spaced ok just the letters are tiny and plate is v.tiny lol got a good pic on it myt make em laugh and let me off guna put velcro on it and keep other one in car if i get pulled over il say it just fell off officer il try and put it back on and it miraculasly sticks now wow lol
granby Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 Special that Dunks he even looks like an arms smuggler. If he's not a arms smuggler then he must be a drugs dealer
quagmire Posted May 21, 2008 Author Posted May 21, 2008 Update on the plates. I left the house 2 hours after the plod left my doorstep to drive to Exeter on business and didn't get out of Kent before i was pulled over and given fixed notice for the plate. I was gutted as the one that came to my house said i had a week and the other gave me no opportunity. The copper also said that they had taken apic of the plate and will send it to the DVLA and i will probably be told that a new registration will be issued to me meaning i have to re-register the car, change my insurance and re MOT the car. NICE!
20withascooby Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 never heard of it going that far surely they cant do that.prob had it on system that ud been warned about it anybody no what size you can have on imports

That is pants, they had it in for you, why do they have to go over the top on a simple thing like number plate size, yet if a hoodie gets caught doing over a line of grannies at a post office on pension day, he gets a caution with no fine, as its not worth them persuing it...... gutted for ya

BLUE V LTD Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 I've had a small plate on the front of my car for the last 2 years and never been stopped for it. The only time I've had to change it was for the MOT. Plus even tho it's a bit on the small side didn't stop me getting a fine from those lovely yellow boxes on the side of the road. Didn't even ask me to smile....

Its just luck of the draw, although in rainham the police seem to be on the case. Probaby because they have done such a good job of sorting out all the real crime.
20withascooby Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 got mine on now with my special picture lol not even had a second look does look alot better then a big square plate
