luke_clifton Posted April 22, 2008 Author Posted April 22, 2008 It gets worse........ Coming home from work tonight, the engine started knocking like those heard the other night. But this time, the car had been running for 25-30 mins, mostly m-way driving at 70mph, so the car was nice, and hot . Please engine, just last until the BHP show.
sydsnot2002 Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 had some work done by slowboy racing,,, clutch, cambelt etc,,,, what a cracking company would recomend them to anyone,

luke_clifton Posted April 22, 2008 Author Posted April 22, 2008 my only problem is, it my everyday car. Use it to commute and everything. Going to be hard getting back to walking everywhere. The plus side is i can save much quicker.
matthew_buckland Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 Did you manage to change the boost regulater hoses back to 5ml. Did this make a difference?
luke_clifton Posted April 26, 2008 Author Posted April 26, 2008 Yeh, i put them back on the same night (pulled over near maidstone, and fitted them using a torch lol). The car got much more response and better running, but the knocking noise returned, though not as loud. Whats your thoughts on the knocking? Think my engine is knackered? I've decided to change the engine regardless of the condition of engine, but just want the car to last until the end of May (BHP & Hastings runs)
swifty1981 Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 have you drop the oil out yet to see if there is any metel in it. when mine went my oil came out silver
luke_clifton Posted April 26, 2008 Author Posted April 26, 2008 Not dropped the oil yet, need to get round to ordering some. Though at £45, for an engine that might only last another 30-40miles, it's not on the top of my list

swifty1981 Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 i agree with dazzler just get some cheap oil. i still think it is strange it does'nt always knock
luke_clifton Posted April 29, 2008 Author Posted April 29, 2008 Deano had a little listen to my car today, and sure enough the git of a car ran perfect. But from what i explained to him, he seems to think it's nothing as serious as a bottom end knock. Due to the fact it's comes and goes whenever it pleases, and doesen't knock the moment it's stated, but a few minutes after. Deano's diagnosis..... A coil has fully broken down, unbalencing the engine.

luke_clifton Posted April 29, 2008 Author Posted April 29, 2008 I'm going to attempt to fit them tomorrow, see if that makes any difference. Hope it does, would love to have a reliable car for the show next week.

dazzlers82 Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 that could been from your original problem mate now one as dean said is completely failing hopefully its all it is
luke_clifton Posted April 29, 2008 Author Posted April 29, 2008 I'm hoping so, Still going to get another engine though lol. Want a 2.5 now . But would be nice to have a fully working engine whilst i save for the block. As dean said, a bearing knock woulden't get better and my problem is getting less frequent. Might knock tonight, as it's really chucking it down now, and my car always plays up in damp weather.

luke_clifton Posted April 30, 2008 Author Posted April 30, 2008 (edited) Well ******* talks utter crap, sorry if i've offended anyone. But i was told these coil packs would fit my engine (those at the last meet would know why it's different). But they simply don't or ever will, the brass ring around the bolt hole is for a 12mm fitment, and mines a 10mm fitment. Without chopping the coil to peices there is absolutly no way there going to fit. I'm so p***ed off with companys fobbing me off. On the plus side, i removed the coil pack on no 3 cylinder, the one where all my noises are coming from. And it's got about a 2mm(width) crack running from bottom-top. Does anyone have any temporary fixes for this as I think this is causing all my issues? Spot on diagnosis from Deano Edit: Removed the company's name, i was abit angry earlier. It's not fair on them really. Edited April 30, 2008 by gurnars
