So does it only happen in 5th? 2700 is just when you are starting to boost, but if its that i would have thought you would get it in every gear. My 2003 wrx makes a whooshing noise from about 2000rpm up to when the turbo kicks in, then it seems to disappear. Loads of things can cause a whine, such as wind getting into the cabin and even the tyres.

ive only noticed it in 5th, when cruising on the motorway, havent paid much attention to the other gears and the sound. its like a fuel pump whine. only when theres pressure on the accelerator peddle from my foot.

ill just buy a walbro and see if it makes a difference.
