watch out everyone with a p/plate yesterday i was stopped by the police on the a2 at danson for displaying a numberplate with the wrong colour screw caps i was told that the police are cracking down on number plates and they even check the bs numbers on your plate to see if 1 you have the stamp on them and 2 to see whom made them for you it is now illegal to display a plate without this bs mark on as we know show plates do not come with this number on i have been reported to dvla for miss use of a private plate under the recommendation that they conviscate it and put the car on a q plate thanks mr copper

so please be aware these laws are new .

On a serious note if your car were to be stolen and you didn't have the index in the correct format then it wouldn't get picked up by the ANPR cameras that are becoming common place. These cameras will pick up any vehicle that has been reported lost or stolen and can help your car to be recovered. :rotfl:

Thought that might get your attention :rotfl::rotfl:

Silly question time, whats the law regarding the smaller import rear number plates, the british ones dont fit, so therefore the lettering is smaller on import ones? just a query.

http://www.dvla.gov.uk/media/pdf/leaflets/...umberplates.pdf

From the DVLA website:

Display of Vehicle Registration Marks on Imported Vehicles (which have arestricted space for a standard sized number plate)Certain imported vehicles may be permitted to display number plates with smaller characters if:

The vehicle does not have European Community Whole Vehicle Type ApprovalAND

l The vehicle's construction/design cannot accomodate standard size number platesSpecifications for smaller sized plates (for certain imported vehicles)

Character Height

64mm

Character Width

44mm

Character Stroke

10mm

Space between characters

10mm

Cheers Mate, Thanks for that,

So i guess as our bumper and number plate brackets are import sized and a british one doesnt fit then i'm ok, Dont want no flashing lights behind me.

Although just to be awkward i dont have fittings for a front plate either, so i have a stick on one which doesnt have a bs standard mark althouigh they are import regulation sized and uk type lettering, The Police didn't seem that bothered by it when we were in Norwich with Essex anpr scoob, but if it deemed illegal then obviously i'll change it cos i'm a good girl..... :P

Apart from the screws and the fact that the bs number was missing, just how 'non-legal' is your plate
i do have a bs number on my plate and the spaces and letters are all legal but the screw caps are impeding onto the letters
