Hi I'm looking to change the steering wheel in a MY96 and was wondering if a wheel from a T plate is just a straight swap? The wheel is the momo one. Any help would be great.

It should be m8, the wiring plug on the airbag may be different from the one in your car!

3 options on that:

1. Dont connect up the airbag, just the horn [will leave airbag light constantly on in dashboard panel or/and take out bulb for said, mega pain]

2. Get a 3 ohm resistor and connect it too the supply wires from the car loom connectors only bridge connections but NOT ON AIRBAG

3. Cut the two supply wires from the airbag, one at a time with the battery disconnected, rejoin same to new bag.

I MUST warn you that anyone that carries out this does so at their own risk!!!

An airbag is EXPLOSIVE

Em in a MY96, I think that it may be safe to say that there may not be an airbag in your car? I dont know you have not said...

However, Its prettty certain that the MY99 WILL be an airbag wheel... Like has been said by Strike, if its the case that you are going from a car that has no airbag, then there wont be the plug for you to plug into... therefore, you will have the airbag, which wont do anything...

Not really sure on the best way about that, if you want THAT PARTICUALR wheel. there are some who know better than me on that...

but then again if you already dont have an airbag, then you can consider going for a normal Momo wheel, there are some realy nice ones on the market, I personally on my last car, had the Momo "champion" I would have it on this car had it not been for the fact that I am not going to remove a safety device from my car, as such I am retaining it for a future car/project...

One thing to bear in mind is that if you were to look at fitting an after market steering wheel to your car, its best to remember that these steering wheels (I'm using Momo as an Example) are universal wheels, and its worth noting that unless stated otherwise, you NEED to buy a fitting kit, (normally about £40 IIRC for the genuine Momo Part - remember don't scrimp on this, its saftey critical!)

If it IS an airbag you have now then I cant help you, but if not then I hope this has helped mate! :D

Thanks all for the info. Yes I forgot to mention my car has an airbag, the wheel is just the boring black one. How do you go about fitting an aftermarket wheel? What I mean is can you keep the airbag roll connector or does it have to come off to fit the wheel?
