I'm a wee bit worried lol. I've had mr2's for years now and my last turbo was lovely but i needed something more practical so i bought a focus :iagree: after realising i hated it i sold it and now i'm thinking bout a scooby. I have around 4k to spend and i was looking at an sti v3. Is this a good version to be looking at? I spoke to the owner and he said the 97 onwards engines are bulletproof due to the forged pistons etc.

any opinions would be greatly appreciated as i've only been in a scooby once for about 5mins years ago and don't even know what it was lol

Hi mate, I personally have a V3 STI 555 V/Ltd, and I can tell you they are great cars althought they are heavy on the juice. As long as there is plenty of service history with the car you'll be ok What mileage etc is on the one you are looking at, has it been modified. Me personally I always look for a standard car but as long as the work has been caried out properly it'll be ok.If you are at all unsure there are always RAC or AA inspections, ok it might seem an extra expense at the time but it could save you a fortune later on in repairs and if there is any small things wrong with the car it can be used as a bargaining tool.

Good luck with the search mate and welcome to the forum.

Also I'm sure there will be wiser people along in a minute, Squiggle by the way cheers for the MAF advice, worked a treat.

IMO, no Jap Import Classic Impreza has a bulletproof engine as standard, there are so many variables which can reduce engine life.. best bet is to try and get a fresh import as standard as possible so that you know its not been fiddled with. Dump Valves, De-Cats, Boost Controllers, Induction Kits are a few things that can go some way to screwing bits of your engine up......... so its a wee bit of a minefield. However, scoobs are good cars mate, but then you're in the right place for an opinion like that... :hello:

Cheers,

A fresh import may not always be the answer, one that's been over here for a while and still going strong ( like my sti2) is prob going to last but a fresh import can be a bit of a minfield as it's not proven to last yet over here.

I'd say it's more about how the car's been looked after and if modded, has it been done right.

And as for a V3 for 4k, i'd say thats too cheap and be wary.
