Big Gordon Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 To use in my '53 plate WRX, and apart from better performance do they affect fuel consumption? Cheers
craig79 Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 On a non-remapped or UK car I would have thought normal UL would suffice, there are claims by Shell that V-Power improves fuel economy tho ? Craig.
C_WRX Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 Un-mapped normal UL should be okay, mapped it'll tie in with e.g. v-power, for better all round result. Personally I always use Shell v-power (unless light comes on and no Shell station about) and not remapped. 99RON, better performance, allegedly bit better fuel economy and cause it is meant to be better/cleaner for the engine on the whole. You've got a couple to choose from in Hamilton and think they are reasonable prices (as far as current prices go anyway!!! ) . Watch out for the v-power days that kick about (v-power at price of normal UL). Think the Tesco 99RON is thought of as good too.

thefastone Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 Normal unleaded? Dontcha mean normal SUPERunleaded... like I believe that it tells you to use...? (I seem to remember it saying in the fuel flap use 98RON) you car will be safe to use if its a uk car on normal unleaded, but I wouldn't have thought that it would run as well as the recommended fuel... there was a test done by Fifth gear about this.... 5th Gear fuel Tests Should tell you everything that you need to know...
vicki Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 Thanks for that mate Shell V Power for me. Might bump into you at Shell Station on Wellhall Road sometime.
Big Gordon Posted December 19, 2007 Author Posted December 19, 2007 That's great guys, cheers. The 5th gear clip was very helpful
Big Gordon Posted December 19, 2007 Author Posted December 19, 2007 Shell V Power for me.Might bump into you at Shell Station on Wellhall Road sometime. I'll keep an eye out for you
speech Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 (edited) Yeah, on the newage cars it's 98 RON minimum guys, it's the Classic UK cars that can run on standard UL. Check on the inside of your fuel filler flap as on mine there is a sticker that states "98RON MINIMUM", so it's either V Power or Tesco 99 for me, there's a Tesco 5 mins from my house but the nearest Shell is 15 miles away so depends on where I am as to what I use. Once when I was away abroad with work the wife filled it up with standard UL, she's not exactly mechanically minded and even she said it sounded and drove like a bag of nails!! So it does say 98 RON on the fuel filler flap ! I need to start reading instructions ! Just as well I use v-power anyway !!

thefastone Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 (edited) Well it tells me 98 on my fuel flap, and I drive a classic, but I believe by law, any uk car must be SAFE to run on normal unleaded... whether it will run like a dog or not... well thats another story... I was running my 01WRX on V Power until it hit the 106.9 a litre i'm using shell unleaded now and it run's fine. Stevie Edited December 19, 2007 by Double Zero
SwiftyScoob Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 Just nipped out and checked my filler flap, 98 RON. Need to pay more attention i think Sadly on my 96 WRX import it's written in japanese. I use super unleaded from tesco which is 97RON as V-power in Elgin is 115.9 which I believe is a little too high. Plus I struggle to hear the lassie behind her mask the robbing so and so.
fai17 Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 Scottimax is the best fuel to use i know i know
scoobymark Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 Scottimax is the best fuel to use More like Jac's 109 ron explosive rocket fuel performance is frightening Miles per gallon only for gay people

marky.t.s Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 (edited) Tesco 99 for my UK classic.....runs better than it did on V-power Edited December 19, 2007 by marky.t.s
spooks Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 V Power for me, seems better power, mpg and smoother than when I tried Tesco 99 and normal UL
thefastone Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 I definitly thought it is much smoother on V-power than on Tesco 99... for sure!
