craig79 Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 Alright people got this from Cusco Kid, I'm right up for it : "See what you think and pass it on if you agree with it We are hitting 106.9 p a litre in some areas now, soon we will be faced with paying £1.10 a ltr. Philip Hollsworth offered this good idea: This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the 'don't buy petrol on a certain day campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to hurt ourselves by refusing to buy petrol. It was more of >an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT,whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work. Please read it and join in! Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a litre is CHEAP, we need to take a ggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the market place not sellers. With the price of petrol going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of petrol come down is if we hit someone in the pocket by not purchasing their Petrol! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. Here's the idea: For the rest of this year DON'T purchase ANY petrol from the two biggest oil companies (which now are one), ESSO and BP. If they are not selling any petrol, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact we need to reach literally millions of Esso and BP petrol buyers. It's really simple to do!! Now, don't wimp out on me at this point... keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!! I am sending this note to a lot of people. If each of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ... and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers! If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it... .. THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!! Again, all You have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all.(and not buy at ESSO/BP) How long would all that take? If each of us sends this email out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8days!!! Acting together we can make a difference If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE 69p a LITRE RANGE It's easy to make this happen. Just forward this email, and buy your petrol at Shell, Asda,Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons Jet etc. i.e. boycott BP and Esso" Craig.
pmacFTO Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 This does the rounds every now and then but they change the prices I always wondered what 300 million people the guy was thinking of.....there's only about 55 mil in the UK It's the duty that hits us in the UK. So the other 245 million people you contact won't give a feck about the price here. One of the women in the FTOOC just got back from Argentina where it is 35p a litre!!
4Hero Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 This has been kicking around for a while Craig. BUYERS control the market place not sellers You think? What other goods do buyers control? Milk? Shoes? We control nothing. As long as we need stuff, we'll pay for it. Please don't send it, I/we get enough spam/pyramid emails as it is.
andy Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 Afraid this is bollocks. It is not the petrol companies that need kicking back against, it it the Government. However, when it comes down to them we just roll over and accept the latest shafting.

However, when it comes down to them we just roll over and accept the latest shafting. totally agree, with the mentality of this country we get shafted, moan about it and lie back and let them shaft us again. The government use the green policy as a way to extract more money out of us as they know they will always be support from the eco hippies. Maybe carbon emissions do have an effect on the enviroment, but I'm sure the UK plays a small part on this when you compare us to China, US and India yet we seem to be inccuring more tax. I personally believe that the worlds climate comes in cycles and has always differed from century to century.
iainc Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 as above.......... Where do you find petrol at those prices? work it out... it's changed since then (upwards unfortunately).
colzo Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 Its the Government in this country thats to blame for the steep fuel prices, and I doubt they are going to change. If they didn`t spend millions on pointless wars then maybe they would be more money available and less tax on everything.

The duty increase was probably a good idea at the time, the only issue is that now that the price of oil is going up so high, the duty on top of it makes a much bigger rise than we're all comfortable with.
~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 Where do you find petrol at those prices? work it out... it's changed since then (upwards unfortunately). I knew that would be challenged but the ratio's remain the same (give or take) and the overall message is true.

scoob fae ork Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 I work on an oil terminal and i have to say when we sell a gallon of oil the goverment put 60% tax on it the oil then makes it s way to the refinary where they have to pay again 60% tax when its sold on believe it or not the oil companys dont get that much proffit out of oil its the volume that the sell that gives them the money as with every thing in this country its the goverment that gets the money so the next time ya fill up ya should think how much tax has REALLY been forked out for a litre of petrol even with the rip off prices we have here. It cost me £61 to fill the Scoob yesterday at £1.14 a litre of 95 ron i say lets make this goverment suffer for what they have done
craig79 Posted December 6, 2007 Author Posted December 6, 2007 I know that 60%-ish is tax and ultimately we will just end up paying what it says at the forecourt, but I've read countless post re. petrol prices now and just end up feeling fecking frustrated that I/we can do nothing at all. Surely by carrying out a fairly easy exercise like this that costs us nothing is worth at least trying ? I'm a believer that you have no right to complain if you're willing to do nothing about the situation, all this is is an oppertunity for the moaners to feel like their in control in some way (like me ). End of the day I'm sick of saying to myself "ach someone else will do something about it", just fecking hate get shafted like we do and just having to take it !! Craig.
4Hero Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 Stop Press, bread is up 17p since last year. What should we do? p.s. 10,000 truckers plot fuel protest

If they didn`t spend millions on pointless wars then maybe they would be more money available and less tax on everything. "Pointless Wars????????" The finances spent going to what you claim are pointless wars is always alotted in each years nationwide financial budgets. Needless to say as an owner of a fuel guzzling impreza I am as annoyed as anyone else regarding the price of fuel but to try and blame military action in countries which are ruled by dictatorships and normal civilians struggle to have the money to buy a car never mind fill it with super unleaded. These countries are ruled by bullies where the big kid wins well news flash guys it's not the f*!^ing playground anymore. I'm not a rainbow flag flying hippy but I just want a fair and just world. The cost of fuel is so high because of economy is always battling to keep up with the rest of the world.
colzo Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 Ok so there is a defence budget and where does money come from that, taxes maybe? 1st Gulf war was to stop the invasion of Kuwait, the 2nd Gulf war (still going on) was to stop a tyrant who allegedly had weapons of mass destruction. So after finding no weapons of mass destruction, but finding the tyrant himself and bringing him to trial, where is the peace in Iraq today? What we have now is another tyrant, controlling the country. So after spending £millions and hundreds of lives lost you tell me what the point was. Oh and don`t think for one minute the uprising and reprisals will stop. Now getting back to the original subject, I`m no politician but I believe we are being ripped off with taxes in this country and money is getting spent on the wrong things. I could go on but this is a car forum after all. Peace.
