craig79 Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Been trawling through the previous posts trying to find a definitive answer. There seems to be a wee bit of conflicting info. On an '03 wrx with the usual Andy F. mods and a 2.5" system which turbo would better suit the 'B' road usage and achieve the 300 ~ 350 mark. Been kinda inspired by Cal's achievement. Really wouldn't take the car any further than this for reliability reasons - it's the day to day car. Sorry for the millionth post re. this folks. Craig.

Either one will be great for a WRX and i personally think a VF34 will be better overall
WUZ Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 Either one will be great for a WRX and i personally think a VF34 will be better overall WRX has a 7K limit, VF35 has a P15 housing and will spool up faster than the 34 giving you a bigger torque curve than the 34. 34 will hit you a little harder though. Depends on how you like to drive the car! Russell

Depends on how you like to drive the car!Russell Thanks lads, tbh the quicker the spool the better, coming from a slightly tweaked td04. I think I'd take bad with full boost coming in at 3.5 rpm or there abouts. Could live with 3k rpm which is in the realm of the vf35 me thinks ?? As you said Russel the car's got a 7k limit so I'd obviously be minimising the rev range. Craig.

Just ask AndyF about boost creep(not good) Jimser(ex Blobeye WRX owner) had a VF34 and made 370/340 from his WRX and had no problems with it where as a VF35 on a STI will not get much that 330 unless your name is G.Mac!! I think Cal(WRX) has a VF35 and has about 320.
GaryD Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 I think you should go for the VF35, btw i've got one for sale if your interested

He'll need to buy "pinks" on top of what he has to get over 320 anyway. Or up the fuel pressure on the 380's (almost as expensive). The above states he wants 300-350 so 370 is overkill on a WRX box for a start! Choice is yours at the end of the day so choose what is best for you. Russell
WUZ Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 But you get boost creep with a VF35 so choose carefully.... So your saying that every VF35 has boost creep then? Interesting....... Can you give us some more information on this Peter? Russell
andrew_forrest Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 Only some VF35's get boost creep, it can usually be sorted by a bit of careful porting work to the wastegate. Andy
G.Mac Posted November 24, 2007 Posted November 24, 2007 (edited) Hello there folks, I am running a VF35 (the one that came with the car) and as Andy said some of the 35's suffer from creep, unfortunately mine did so had to get it ported, at the same time I had the exhaust housing ported also. I am using Scottymax fuel (10% methanol blend) and I am running 270bhp and 364 lbs-ft of torque in my 05 sti uk with other supporting mods Graeme Edited November 24, 2007 by G.Mac
craigdmcd Posted November 24, 2007 Posted November 24, 2007 Craig, what sort of modified TD04 do you have, and what power do you have with it?

Russell
andrew_forrest Posted November 24, 2007 Posted November 24, 2007 .I am using Scottymax fuel (10% methanol blend) and I am running 270bhp and 364 lbs-ft of torque in my 05 sti uk with other supporting mods Graeme 270 Graham On the VF35 I'v seen power levels anything from not quite making 300 to 370 depending on set up and supporting mods. The average is around 335 on an AVCS car. A VF 34 is similar to a TD05-16G and will usually make 10bhp more with the same mods but comes on boost 100-200rpm later due to the larger exhaust housing. Andy
jimser Posted November 24, 2007 Posted November 24, 2007 i ran a vf34 on my '05 wrx,my original target was 350/350 and on the research i done at the time seemed to point at the vf34,i will add that most of that research was done on nasioc.the spec of the car was; perrin fmic injen cai 650 injectors walbro fuel pump full 3"meercat decat exhaust decat up-pipe avcr after remap the car achieved 340bhp/340lb ft.8 weeks later the car was mapped with 10% methanol and achieved 370bhp/348lb ft,car was ran every day for work and made at least 60 crail launches without problems.the '03 wrx gearboxes will take a bit more power than people think, kevametals car was running circa 420bhp on a wrx.at the end of the day both turbos will be sufficient for what you want to achieve,as andy said the 35 will achieve full boost a tad earlier jim
craig79 Posted November 24, 2007 Author Posted November 24, 2007 Craig, what sort of modified TD04 do you have, and what power do you have with it? Sorry craig, didnae quite word that clearly, it's just the std td04 but Andy's done his stuff so getting a bit more out of it. What I mean is I love the response of the tdo4 so keeping optimum boost as low as possible would be what I'm aiming for. Thanks everyone for your input, looks like the vf35 is still the turbo of choice albeit I'll have to either track one down thats been ported or get it done maself. Craig.

Craig. I do have someone up here selling a standard one which can be ported for you if required (local guy up here does it, I know him fairly well )

At least I definitely know which direction I'm going in terms of turbo choice. When I revive the bank balance I'll drop ya a pm to see if you can help me. Craig.

Spoke to Angie and she said you'd had a cyclone that would explain things a little Edited November 26, 2007 by Boyakasha
