buffalo Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 hey just bought a blob eye wrx had it two days but doesnt give me that oomph factor a had with my old car so looking to spend some money to add some extra BHP. looking for advice and info on where to go any what to buy what gains could i expect from a full s/s decat system (nur type r) fuel pump and map? will fitting the sti scoop help help my wrx intercooler etc cheers in advance
iainc Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 Never haed a blob eye so couldn't say with them, but I made some pretty good gains on the old classic I had by putting on a full decat and running a Dawes device to raise the boost (similar to a remap but far more crude approach to it). Would imagine that you'd make some pretty good gains by doing a remap with full decat on the blob eye. What car have you come from then that performed better? (honest q not trying to start some flame war )
Hepy Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 You should get about 260-270 with an ecutek remap with the mods you have suggested. I think
buffalo Posted November 17, 2007 Author Posted November 17, 2007 lol came from a renault sport 182, not sayin it was a better car but it was like a go kart you could throw it at anything and it would come out the other end unscathed passed a few wrx in my time thats why i'm looking for gains in brake. its definately a step up tho in terms of maturity in my opinion plus 4 door etc

WRX is only 220bhp roughly without mods, which might work out roughly the same bhp/ton as the 182? My 94 had ~290bhp from a full decat, induction kit and raising the boost, would imagine you'd get roughly the same with a remap instead of the dawes device, in fact you should get a better driving car out of it doing it "properly" with a remap.
buffalo Posted November 17, 2007 Author Posted November 17, 2007 yeah i understand its about 10% you lose through the 4wd. tbh a would like around 300bhp wether that be with the mods suggested or extra. just feel the car thrives more power obviously due to the size of it plus the awd
frank c Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 Hi buddy , welcome to the forums. It's always worth a look in here http://www.andyforrestperformance.co.uk/index2.html

buffalo Posted November 17, 2007 Author Posted November 17, 2007 so will an aftermarket filter be just as good as an induction kit? ive been told to stay away from blitz ones as they'll let everthing but a bus through the filter lol

Read a few threads of people that notice a difference from adding just even an exhaust removing the cats (or have a sports cat downpipe) but getting the remap will be the most obvious big improvement - I will be doing so myself once the funds appear. I have a replacement panel filter, was advised this was a good option.

G.Mac Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 (edited) 370 bhp and 364 lbs-ft of torque Power Mods Meercat 3 inch "Snakehead" turbo back decat system £550 GT spec 2 headers and up pipe £400 ish (cant remember cost) Standard VF35 turbo with wastegate ported to stop boost creep (Think the work cost about £200, but had other stuff done at the same time) APS inner wing induction kit (£100 2nd hand) Perrin intake elbow and a couple of Samco bits and bobs (£100 2nd hand) Bosch 255 liter per hour fuel pump (£150ish) Andy Forrest remap with 10% Methanol in the fuel (£550 + VAT the first time, not sure if its gone up since then. £200 the 2nd time (headers and meth) edit oh yea and a forge re circ dump valve (no need for VTA with APS kit!!!!) on a 2005 STi uk ps car for sale soon!!!! Graeme Edited November 18, 2007 by G.Mac
buffalo Posted November 18, 2007 Author Posted November 18, 2007 ^^^^^^^^^^ there some nice figures. a liitle to rich fr me jus now tho. how do you rate the forge dump valve
G.Mac Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 not too bad, theres a wee bit of a "ting" from it, being a re-circ I would prob have been better off leaving the standard one on, but I fitted a Bailey VTA one on when I got the car and lost the standard one, then I changed back to a re-circ when I heard all the scare stories f them bore washing peoples engines. Im not that fussed with dump valves but with the APS induction kit alot of the noise comes back through the system so sounds like you haver a VTA fitted (vent to atmosphere) Graeme
~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 Andy is unlikely to fit your section.Local garage could do it for £20 if you are refering to the decat link pipe. To get a downpipe fitted is circa 1.5 hrs labour though Loudest I know of is the Turbo XS RFL. Not cheap too buy though. Most advice against VTA dump valves but if you do then go for the HKS, Forge or Blitz. Baileys are not really recommended though Cheers Cal
buffalo Posted November 18, 2007 Author Posted November 18, 2007 yeah i could get the de cat fitted myself just heard that when you do it they run lean till you get it mapped. its got a magnex cat bak on it just now, its the 6x4 oval so i like it because you dnt see many scoobs with that style of exhaust. so dont't know wether to keep it and jsut add the decat section ie the two from after the turbo. or purchase an other one like a blitz. for the dump valve, its my first turbo so the little boy in me wants it to go whoosh lol was goin to buy the blitz ssqv bov from the states and take advantage of the good exchange rate
buffalo Posted November 18, 2007 Author Posted November 18, 2007 does the green panel filter come recommended, as i've just seen them for £43 delivered
frank c Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 does the green panel filter come recommended, as i've just seen them for £43 delivered Thats's the one I use and many others on here too. Good choice. Don't worry about using your car de-catted before the remap either.
