thefastone Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 hi guys im thinking of selling my lancia for a scooby wagon, i know there not to everyones taste but i like them. what i want to know is what bad points should i look for, have they the same drivability as the saloons? i have been offerd a straight swap (my car for his no cash changes hands) its on pistonheads http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/249857.htm your thoughts would be appreciated Hey man, Looking for wagons, you cant go wrong, Fair play they are not everyones cuppa, but I like them also, as far as the difference between wangons and saloons go, there is very little differnce, the engine, suspension, interior, is all the same, only difference is the back end, it sticks out in stead of in... that in mind, there should be no difference between them... all parts should fit both except spoilers and tail lights... Looking at that car tho, that is an older model, and to be honest, you may well have to do a bit more work on them. I used to have an N reg wagon (1.8 tho) and I did have a lot of problems before I got shot, Although I wished I could have both cars!!! He says thers some scabbing on the bonnet and boot, you really need to get that seen to, sharpish, rust is common around the hing areas on the bonnet, and I know I had bad rust around the boot handle. also, check the roof, Imprezas are prone to the roof rusting, espacially along where the windscreen joins the roof... again, these are all things my last wagon had... the roof was bad enough that everytime they changed the windscreen, they couldn't promise it would seal (it was always fine tho...) also, Looking at the pics, they are deffinitly NOT STi wheels... they are standard uk turbo wheels... I'm giving a set away later on today... curious they way that he says WRX style interior... mmmm... yeah... And finally, its been Decatted and has a funky backbox, but the rest of the system (that only leaves the centre section?) I imagine at that age, will most likly not be too heathy...? unless its been replaced... probably be best to get a SS centre section... Now, I'm not trying to scare you here, but just make sure you know what you are buying, better to go in with eyes open as it were... and you might find that this car has none of those problems... but you still need to check, better to not have any surprises later on...
paul555sti Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 You cant go wrong with a wagon altough i am slightly bias....... http://forums.sidc.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=105589 Good luck with the search.
delta martini Posted October 11, 2007 Author Posted October 11, 2007 thanks mate i dont know ANYTHING about them it looks a very clean car but as you said i will look at these areas im going to ask him for more pics of engine bay & interior, as i dont want to go down to the whirrel and get stung!!. but to be fair mine is needing slight attention so there is a bit of come & go eh!. the wheels dont realy bother me to much i quite like them although the wife hates gold lol. im realy looking for a car that i can use money to up-grade it not spend a fortune just to keep it on the road & the wagon is sporty yet practical...i know its an older car but as marty will tell you i dont buy new cars they dont apeal to me i like the aggressive look . in the past ive always went on the cars looks but that has been a costly mistake through the years, i will keep you up to date on developments as im foning him tonite................
RA Dunk Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 rust is common around the hing areas on the bonnet, and I know I had bad rust around the boot handle. also, check the roof, Imprezas are prone to the roof rusting, espacially along where the windscreen joins the roof... again, these .. Dale, the rust on yours was a one off ive never seen another impreza anywhere near as bad as that , impreza`s arent that bad for rust TBH, theres very few classics going around that are rust buckets apart from your old one, i think you must have washed that with salt water everyday to get that effect lol
mrtoad Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 I have to say that there is no rust on my wagon apart from a bit, and it is a bit, on the back hinges as thefastone said happens. Also, if you do change the back lights you will have to make sure they fit as they are different. I love mine though and its not even turbo, but it goes really good & I would recommend it, but I do think you have to have a 'taste' for the wagon! The only problem I find is that occassionally you will find the back end swing, but hey its all part of the fun! If its a good one, get it and enjoy it!
thefastone Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 only problem I find is that occassionally you will find the back end swing, but hey its all part of the fun! Nah, they all do that of you put the boot in enough LOL!!! And yeah Dunk, I know that the Shed was a one off, but its a prime example of what happens if you dont keep it in check... Ive already had the whole roof on this car resprayed at T&Cs cost because it was corroding, the paint was getting all bubbly... I wouldn't have liked to have paid for that myself... aparently the corrosion was all over the roof, more that I thought from the looks of the paint... Like I say, its not all doom... just keep an eye...
