butler Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 Hi guys, Can anyone advise on how i can acheive a reliable 350bhp and a good torque figure on my sti v3? Only engine mods just now is cat back Afterburner vortex with ninja decat downpipe on the way. Was thinking myself of 550 injectors, walbro fuel pump, apexi air filter and adjusting boost. I'm guessing a remap would be advised? Anyway advice would be great guys. Cheers Lee
james666 Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 ok i might be wrong but you need to get a front mount fuel pressure regulator aswell as remap or chip!!!!! as for apexi filter thats a good choice, also u might wanna go full decat. not 100% on 550s though but i'm sure somebody else will say better
james666 Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 oh i forgot apexi power fc too and boost control kit!! to go with said item!! should be good for it!!!
butler Posted August 15, 2007 Author Posted August 15, 2007 Yeah i have a full decat system to be fitted. Thought the top mounts on sti v3 are good for 350 bhp?
RA Dunk Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 Quote Yeah i have a full decat system to be fitted. Thought the top mounts on sti v3 are good for 350 bhp? hmmmmm, im not sure they can deal with that ammount of power TBH but im not 100% sure about it, better off with a top mount from a new age if you dont wanna go FMIC
z1000 Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 I have a v2 with full decat, apexi induction (bought from indigo gt for £100), fuel pump and scoobyecu chip and got 315 bhp on the rr on sunday. I'm thinking of more power also and have been advised to go for a FMIC, 550's or 740's and apexi power commander, i'm also thinking of chnging the turbo for a 20g but am hoping for closer to 400, worth contacting andy f regarding a remap as there's possibly a group buy on soon. Steve
oz *sti* Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 Hi Lee, I have a V3 as well at the mo it's running around the 340ish mark, the mod's I have done so far are full decat 2.5inch, RCM headers (heat wrapped headers, turbo and downpipe), larger fuel pump, NGK plugs, FMIC, K&N induction kit (with cold air feed), apexi fc mapped by the good man Mr F, Getting the Apexi Power FC and a map by Andy is worth the money on it's own, the difference will be like night and day. Next stage for me will be 400bhp which will involve turbo change, larger injectors, fpr.

oz *sti* Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 I done mine in bits and bob's - so did not go from standard straight to what I have know, but even after the first map with Andy when I fitted the decat there was a good difference, also with Andy mapping the car you are sure he will get the best from it while still being safe. Not 100% on the torque figure to be honest mate, but Andy did say when I got the car mapped last he thought the torque figure would be about 320ish, was hoping to make the last RR day but missed out due to work, will have to get it on the rollers to find out for sure.
duncan_stephen Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 Recently looked into this myself, and below are my thoughts / findings. Firstly, I'd think about what you have at the moment. What miles and condition is your engine. They are capable of 400bhp, but obviously will be under more strain, so if the mileage is high or its had a hard life, a rebuild might be a good place to start. Nothing worse than spending out lots of money to get there then the engine breaks. Another aspect is handling and stopping power. Always good to upgrade these first. Not only will they help get the best out of the car, but they are esential for a powerfull car, especially the brakes. If thats all fine then there are several areas to look at. Fueling - Walbro 255 pump, 440cc injectors ( its worth having these cleaned and flow checked), Adjustable Fuel Press Regulator. Breathing - Full De-cat, ported headers / GT spec headers, induction kit Cooling - I'd personally upgrade this, although I have been told that the sti3 is OK for 350bhp. FMIC or some people opt for the STI8 TMIC (A bit of work but allows you to keep the std air intake, just a drop in panel filter required) Turbo - There are a few options for the 350 mark. VF34 or VF35 (STI 8) or TD05 front entry (Worth speaking to Andy) ECU - Apexi Power FC, Also worth looking into a AVCR to compliment this. As above Andy F is the man to map this. There are lots of other bits you can add to the list, but I think thats the essentials covered.
duncan_stephen Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 Quote is the standard td05 capable of 350 bhp Not really. The TD05 needs converted to front entry first of all. From what I remember:- The 16G should give around 330BHP (with supporting mods obviously). 18G around 360BHP and 20G Just under 400BHP.
dazzlers82 Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 if you look at my sig there my mods well will be when get car back so maybe ill have to change turbo as well[]
duncan_stephen Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 Quote if you look at my sig there my mods well will be when get car back so maybe ill have to change turbo as well[] I'm no expert like, so it might be worth sending an E-Mail to the likes of Andy Forrest, but from memory the standard TD05 has a 90 degree entry that is very restrictive, hence the need for front entry conversion. And if you are doing that, you might as well go for the 18G.
