Scooby Hoo? Posted July 23, 2007 Posted July 23, 2007 My son is looking to buy his first car. His preference is a Mk 4 Golf [au]1000-1200cc low mileage, not to many owners, full service history etc. I thought that one of you guys might have or know of such a car for sale. He's got about £2500[:'(] to spend for the right car. So if you can help we'd like to hear from you. Many thanks .[]
prodrive tony Posted July 23, 2007 Posted July 23, 2007 Do they do a MK4 Golf with that small engine size?? Maybe the smallest is around 1.4 and they are very sought after for the young one's. Keep my eyes peeled.

Keep my eyes peeled. Yes your spot on Tony. He wants a 6rv or is it rv6 don't know and don't care because it's not a Scubee. His dad wants him to have a 1.4. Thanks for keeping your eyes open, will keep in touch if he finds one. [H]

matthew_buckland Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 We had a ford galaxy which had the vw vr6 engine and it was bl**dy quick and that was in a heavy galaxy (i'm sure granby can vouch for the speed of them), we have just brought our 16year old a mk2 austin mini, low insurance and loads of bits you can still buy to make them look good.
prodrive tony Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 My brothers in same position, hes going for a 1.4 mk3 Golf which is still a classy ride when smoothed and tweaked [Y]

danno Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 I've got a Mk4 1.8T as my daily driver (I don't want to put the commuting miles on the Scoob, imagine the fuel consumption : ( , but I'm not going to drive 60 miles each day in any old POS!). My experience of looking for Mk4 Golfs suggests that they are very, very expensive (I am an old VW fanboi so I didn't care that much, to my bank manager's annoyance). I can appreciate that your son wants something nice and cool to have, but from my experience of owing my first car, the best bit was knowing that it was worth nothing and could basically be fixed for chips. I had more fun in that than in my Scoob (yes, it was infinitely slower, but you didn't worry about taking it cross country or bumping up kerbs or throwing through hedges backwards). If he wants something newish then Vee Dubs aren't the way to go as you'll be competing against every well financed yummy mummy between here and Buckinghamshire. Try a Pug or a Toyota. If he wants something distinctive, a classic Capri (in good nick) makes for a distinctive, cheap to insure motor that will slay his mate's 106s and Clios and get the girls interested
