Louise_Rat Posted June 23, 2007 Posted June 23, 2007 1 of 3 things is wrong with the car 1 still could be an airlock 2 thermostat broke 3 head gasket gone which could of caused more damage if its option 3 we cant afford to have it repaired , labour costs etc , so we will have to pull out of all meets and the taunton show
craigy Posted June 23, 2007 Posted June 23, 2007 ahhhh rubbish? hope its option 1, i remember wen i was a mechanic os a certain motor(forgot which one now) to get a airlock out it had to be parked on a hill, belive it or not but its true, however i say hill, i just jacked the front up? soz i canny help ya hun, get well soon scoob craigy
Louise_Rat Posted June 23, 2007 Author Posted June 23, 2007 tried parking it on a hill , still no luck , only thing left to try is blasting it through but its leaning toward option 3
craigy Posted June 23, 2007 Posted June 23, 2007 dont skip option 2 hunhave you tried the thermostat??? what symptoms have you got then?
Louise_Rat Posted June 23, 2007 Author Posted June 23, 2007 first the rad cracked and it overheated , so we replaced it with one with one from a wrx that fitted the sti double fans , filled it with coolant etc , car would not overheat but temp shot up if ya gave it a bit of welly or any prolonged period of boost , quick blast no probs . then on the wat to swms the bottom rad hose split and temp shot up , got towed to swms , got a new rad hose and fitted it , filled it back up with water , engine running pumping correct etc etc car will idle and stay exactly where it should , but if you drive it even slow for more than 5 mins it overheats , and there is a smell in the rad bottle of fuel when its hot . there is plenty of flow to the heater matrix , but no heat coming out at all. and we cant check the return , may mean taking out the intercooler tomorrow .oh and the oil temp has never exceeded 100 degrees .
craigy Posted June 23, 2007 Posted June 23, 2007 have you checked and double checked the fans are cutting in and starting up, sounds to me they are not?
Louise_Rat Posted June 23, 2007 Author Posted June 23, 2007 yeah both fans are coming on and there is water trying to go into the heater matrix .
kevlorn Posted June 23, 2007 Posted June 23, 2007 oh no.............hopefully its something easy.....
jd Posted June 23, 2007 Posted June 23, 2007 you can still come to the shows. hope you can resolve the problems.
Bailey73 Posted June 23, 2007 Posted June 23, 2007 I think this would still apply to Subaru's - If the head gasket has gone you will find white sludge in the oil, check inside the oil filler cap for white sludge, also, oil can get mixed in with the coolant if the gasket has gone so check inside the coolant resevoir for oil floating on the surface. Personally I do not believe that your head gasket has failed, is it a brand new radiator you had fitted?.
jd Posted June 23, 2007 Posted June 23, 2007 I spoke to Martyn Jeffreys this am & the fact there is no oil contamination does not rule out head gasket, very likely it is the head gasket gone.
Louise_Rat Posted June 23, 2007 Author Posted June 23, 2007 was a 2nd hand radiator from a wrx have had a word with the in-laws and have the go ahead to get the car sorted , cost no issue
