Mr_Spikey Posted January 14, 2007 Posted January 14, 2007 Hi all, got a couple of quick questions for the Japanese scooby owners amongst us, 1. What octane petrol should a MY94 JDM WRX be running on, I put in 99 + octane booster to 101, which is pretty expensive, am I alright to run on 99 only ?????? 2. What is the standard boost for an unmodified Japanese MY94 WRX, am only running 0.8bar at the moment since i started tinkering with things (boost controller, ecu etc !!!), but it seems a little sluggish to when i first got it [sn] ?? Thanks Guys + Gals []
quentin_moss Posted January 14, 2007 Posted January 14, 2007 You should always put the high octane fuel in, some like Optimax others are happy on BP / Tesco, check yours to see which it prefers. I dont use Octane boost but you should stick to it really, unless you get a remappable ECU then it can run on anything if its set up properly. Mine peaks at 1 bar then drops back to 0.8 and thats with no boost or ecu mods, dont start tinkering too much as if you put too much boost and not enough fuelling it goes bang (I should know, I blew my first one 94 WRX then my second too 98 Type R) It gets expensive for the pursuit of speed
Mr_Spikey Posted January 14, 2007 Author Posted January 14, 2007 Cheers Q-Dog, Got the remappable ecu, but not had it properly mapped yet, if that makes any difference to the petrol ?? I dont mind sticking with the boost I got at the moment until I get a proper remap, was more worried about the petrol ( have been using Tesco 99, local petrol station,) have ran it once with no octane booster and seems ok, but wanted to check before I stopped the octane booster altogether and melted something in the engine !!
Baz69birds Posted January 14, 2007 Posted January 14, 2007 Ive got a UK SPEC '94. i run SHELL OPTIMAX or TESCO 99 ron, & i have NO NEED to put octane boost in!!! but im just one. Also if you ask the same question in the ESSEX SCOOBY CREW, since Tesco & shell brought there hi ron fuel out, 90% of people have stopped using octane boost all together.. Baz
Mr_Spikey Posted January 14, 2007 Author Posted January 14, 2007 Cheers Baz. will probably stop using it and see how it goes (will keep a bottle spare just in case [H])
Dalthegooner Posted January 14, 2007 Posted January 14, 2007 For normal everyday driving 99ron fuel will be OK. Although I would only use Shell V-Power as it is the best 99ron fuel available (According to independent tests []) If you plan on going out for a long spirited drive or taking it on track then I'd use an Octane Booster. Its better to be safe than sorry!!!
dazzlers82 Posted January 14, 2007 Posted January 14, 2007 i run mine on v power used to use tesco but v power seems to last a lot longer and i dont use any booster only problem is detling is the closest i think.
scoots Posted January 14, 2007 Posted January 14, 2007 i've only ever run mine on shell v power, never had any problems.
j-k Posted January 14, 2007 Posted January 14, 2007 I would get it mapped properly....before you do any damage... Who set up the original map?? Jon
scooby princess Posted January 14, 2007 Posted January 14, 2007 my husband has a 95/96 jdm wrx and he tries to run it on v power most of the time but other times he does put in 97 ron!
daniel Posted January 14, 2007 Posted January 14, 2007 Hi ya mate I just use high octane fuel ( BP Ultimate V-Power Optimax) without any booster and I dont have any problems
Mr_Spikey Posted January 15, 2007 Author Posted January 15, 2007 Thanks for the replies guys, some good advice there !!!!! []
