millsy13 Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 Hi I have an 05 STI and was wondering what options I have for a new air filter, I don't want an induction kit and have heard that you have to watch what type of filter you buy. Any recomendations or ones to avoid? Willie
jamie_wood Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 Avoid Induction Kits Go for either the STI or I think the cotton green panel filers are the best option.
chris_c201 Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 Yeh i bought a Green Filter with cleaning kit off a GB on Scoobynet, was just about £40 delivered..... very slight diff in induction noise....
clutdav Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 It depends if you want to have piece of mind or not. I put a cold air induction system on my 05 STi and it was running fine (over fueling but very safe) - but in doing so didn't give any BHP increase only a very nice noise. I decided to have a Tek3 EcuTek remap done and the car is now fueling correctly and absolutely flies. I have a magnex cat back exhaust, k&n typhoon induction kit and the remap and the car is making 300bhp and 290ft.lbs of torque - and that is with all three cats still in place. Dave
st3ph3n Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 Sti has only 2 cats from what I remember Dave. Downpipe and the centre. The WRX throws the up-pipe cat into the mix.
ANDYJDMSTI Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 agree with Jamie, green cotton or STI filter. i used to run the STI filter inmine with no problems. If you ever go for induction kit then if you get the standard sized 76mm one it is a case of plug and play so to speak but if like me you get the 80mm then you will need a remap to rescale your MAF. In all honesty i would get a remap just for peace of mind if i fitted an induction kit.........but that is just me!!!
