oz *sti* Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 Hi all, Got a question about the boost in my 97 sti V3, the boost usually sits at 0.7 bar, last night took car to get petrol and a quick blast and notice when I put my foot down in 3rd the boost climbed to 1 bar then the car started to hesitate like i was slamming the brakes on 2/3 times as if it was not getting any/enough fuel and was going to stop, this happen twice Tried it again in 3rd boost went to 1 bar then fell back to about 0.7 / 0.8 bar but there was no hesisation from what I could feel. Never had this problem before??? I'm due to take the car down to Greers tomorrow to get a bigger fuel pump fitted and the boost turned up to 1.1 bar, would the bigger fuel pump help with the hesisation??? I will be able to talk to Bill about it tomorrow just wondered if you Techie minded guys had any idea's thoughts?? Thanks in advance.
drb5 Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 You hit fuel cut. Basically the car was hitting too high a boost. What's Bill gonna fit for adjusting the boost?
Edinburgh-Chris Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 That sounds identicle to the problem i had mate and the answer as above is the old ECU fuel cut. If you can find out your ECU type, then someone on her will be able to tell you the main characteristics of it....ie, when boost cut will occur! By doing that, you will then know your limits when ajusting the boost...........How exactly are greer going to do it on yours? It might be worth buying yourself a Knocklink unit for the dashboard just for peace of mind, they are not that expensive, All the best mate, Chris
fai17 Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 Sounds like fuel cut to me.Bill will sort it tho as he does work on mines and mine peaks at 1.9bar
oz *sti* Posted January 15, 2006 Author Posted January 15, 2006 only mods are decat centre section, afterburner b/b and a D/V no other mods at all. Had the car over a year and this has never happened before even when I have been driving it hard???
wilky Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 Peter, I very much doubt you are getting 1.9 bar if you were your torque would be fantastic and your bottom end shagged. Perhapes your guages arent reading correctly, if it is 1.9 bar get sorted sooner rather than later. 1 bar is about right for an import STI is it not?? About 14 - 15 psi. If your only hitting 0.7 bar I would say that you had a problem with your waste gate dumping too much which could be caused by a faulty actuator, or more than likely someone has overfilled your car with oil and you have gunked up your boost solinoid which will require you to clean it. However it does sound like you did hit fuel cut, dont know if a gunked up solinoid would cause you to overboost as well, probably. Callum W
