wedmonds Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 Hello all, Having been to the meet at southend and seem some seriously tidy cars. I am already thinking about making some changes to my 03 STI. (yeah i know i said i would not be bothered granby ) Anyways...... 1) How much and where can i get a remap done? Anyone got recommendations? I am in South East London ( Orpington ) (i am lead to believe that this will give me the best increase in performance) 2) When going through the Dartford tunnel there was some seriously fantastic exhaust notes coming through my window!. Due to laughing so much, trying to drive, trying to watch granby flames i miseed the exact cars that made such wonderful sounds. sooooo...... Who can recommend a fantastic sounding exhaust 3) How much and where can i get a dump valve fitted Thanks all! wedmonds -------------------------------------------------- I can spunk it quicker than i can earn it
darryl_martin Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 Loads of opinons on exhausts, probably best to pop along to a meet and have a listen to others cars (one at a time) As youve realised the temptation to mod is a strong one, and afaik a remap costs about £5-700. If you then add more mods, filter/IK, full decat etc a second remap would make the most of the second wave of mods. What I would say is the remap is probably going to be the most expensive mod so plan carefully and try to get that done when youve done everything else. Theres someone on here (Simon?) goes under the name of jolly green monster, who I think does remaps in the Kent area.
leon Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 1, decat exhaust 2, induction kit 3, spark plugs 4,fuelling 5, remap hope this helps but a remap should be made last after the mods
wedmonds Posted January 10, 2006 Author Posted January 10, 2006 Only thoughts on the decat exhaust is the legal side. Do you guys take your cars to a garage and have it replaced before the MOT and taken off after? Do i have to have it Decat?
SCOOBYTOO Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 keep the centre decat for mots 4 bolts and its on and off. that cat alone should be sufficient to pass an mot. the most bhp for ££ would be the decat m8.
wedmonds Posted January 10, 2006 Author Posted January 10, 2006 Do you recommend any MOT centres that understand the Subaru owners needs for no cat?
granby Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 My recommendations would be Full decat Fuel pump Remap with that little lot you should have about 320-330 bhp with about the same torque with ref to MOT stations I touch goats
granby Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 If you don't want the hassle of changing cats for the MOT then have a sports cat fitted in the downpipe and that should still pass the MOT
wedmonds Posted January 10, 2006 Author Posted January 10, 2006 Sports Cat sounds more like the thing i would be after. Do you still get fairly good performace from them? Thanks for all your suggestion thusfar.... exactly the information i was looking for. My understanding or Torque is that, the more torque you have the quicker your 0-60 is. Is that correct? Assuming it is, are your recommended upgrades still the same if i wanted to concentrate on the 0-60? << If you don't want the hassle of changing cats for the MOT then have a sports cat fitted in the downpipe and that should still pass the MOT >>
granby Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 The sports cats nowadays should only lose you a few bhp you probably would not notice the difference
wedmonds Posted January 10, 2006 Author Posted January 10, 2006 So any recommendations on makes or models? I would be after something fat a noisy. Dont think ill say that sentance ever again!
SCOOBYTOO Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 fat and noisey.............tsl firestorm as on mine with full de-cat or nur spec r as on shreks pink tart mobile as for de- cat down pipe you wont need a sports d/pipe to pass, the std centre cat back place will/should do the job...... and shrek is selling a nearly new h&s downpipe the best there is !!!
granby Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 Hayward & Scott are highly recommended and are local'ish and there is a group buy on Scoobynet at the moment
shrek Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 << fat and noisey.............tsl firestorm as on mine with full de-cat or nur spec r as on shreks pink tart mobile Oi! less of the "pink tart mobile" - I wont have you calling Jeff a tart!
wedmonds Posted January 11, 2006 Author Posted January 11, 2006 Ok so having had some great input from you all i think the next two steps are as follows: 1) Take the car to a subaru garage or similar, chuck em a £10 and get them to put it on the ramp and check out whats been done to the exhaust system so far. 2) Hit the next meet and listen to lovely exhaust notes of fellow sidcers. Then make a choice on where i go next.
granby Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 I would say nothing has been done to the exhaust as it sounded like the standard burble
wedmonds Posted January 11, 2006 Author Posted January 11, 2006 Only reason i think that something has been done is that salesmen thought there may have been. In addition to that someone at the meet said that it had something like magnex or similar written on it. What make is the standard exhaust?
granby Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 It might of had the rear box changed, standard rear box might have STi on it or nothing at all
wedmonds Posted January 11, 2006 Author Posted January 11, 2006 So looks like i will take a visit to Xtremscoobies to find out and have a look around.
wedmonds Posted January 11, 2006 Author Posted January 11, 2006 Called Fox (Badgers Mount) and asked them if they could take a look. Got to give them a bell next week but they said they should beable to advise what is standard and what is not. Other than that they cannot advise but that is fine as once i know whats been done i can go from there.
wedmonds Posted January 11, 2006 Author Posted January 11, 2006 I e-mailed the dealer that originally sold the car and has carried out all the servicing on the car ( Gatwick ) and they replied..... ------------------------------------ Hi Wayne We did sell this vehicle from new, and have carried out all the servicing. The only modification we have carried out is a prodrive rear silencer. We are currently running a promotion on the STI performance packs. We can supply and fit for £1700.00 Inc VAT. (Normal price £2000.00)., this takes the BHP to 305 from 265. ------------------------------------ Whats that like for a price? Can i get this and request s different exhaust?
granby Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 If you want to keep your warranty then that is the only option you get Sports cat downpipe Uprated fuel pump Rear box Remapped ECU Decat pipe (replaces the last cat)
