nicostar Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 good evening everyone , sorry to ask this question as it's probably been asked a million times on the forum , but here goes anyway . what are the advantages/disadvantages of fitting a dump valve to my car also what type would you recomend (nothing too noisy) thanx
RA Dunk Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 duno about advantages and disadvantages i got a baileys motorsport not too loud just about right in my opinion.. im happy with it
ANDYJDMSTI Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 No advantages really apart from a nice wee noise. disadvantages range from some people experiencing rough idling to some having their oil stink of petrol (whether that is due to d/v, who knows) get one and try it, if you dont like it then get rid. Personnally i prefer the noise from my induction kit.
Gumball Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 as andy said the advantages are purely comsetic. its just spewing outa noise. theres also the case of oil doing whatever and making things break but i havent had any problems to date. go to the searhc space at the top of the page and type in dump valve. this will bring up all the previous threads about the pro's and cons of them mate. When i look in the dump valve i see crank oil or some shat but thats just the resin floating about the engine bay, nothing a catch can wouldnt fix. Something not too loud???? Baileys, Blitz, or one i think suits most cars well is the HKS SQV. thats a great dump valve and sounds cool for cats. HKS is a couple of hundred sheets perhaps and is the dogs.
~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 I love mine........click for sound sample This is mine and it's MEGA - might be too loud for ya though The RFL stands for really effin' loud Cheers Cal
dougster Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 I had an ITG panel filter fitted (MY97) but with the inner wing resonator removed and standard DV. That's another nice sound.
dave_morgan Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 What age is your car? I've got a Forge one available for the late classic shape impreza (1999-2001 roughly).
st3ph3n Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 H+S Jap Slash backbox + HKS SSQV BOV + Wee Tunnel =
des_curran Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 Hi m8, As has already been said there is no advantage to fitting another d/valve other than noise I have had 2 baileys piston d/valves on mine and both leaked, i have now fitted a turbosmart vee port valve and it doesnt leak and sounds good without being too noisey, its easily adjustable too. If you do fit a vta d/valve i would change the oil quite frequently with a good quality oil, i have mine changed every 3000miles with motul and dont have any problems with oil/fuel mixing.
mazheriqbal_mohammed Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 Many people sem to have mixed opinions about vta dumpvalves with many people reconing they are purely cosmetic, but i recon there may be some performance gains to using a vta dmpvalve. I did a comparison test running at crail one time with the OE dumpvalve and the next time with a baileys vta and i found that the 60ft times and overall 1/4 mile times were quicker with the baileys vta dumpvalve. However it is probably worth baring in mind that Impreza's are known to perform differently day to day given different ambient conditions and so the times i got could be down to such changes. However the experience has left me favouring having a vta dumpvalve plus nothing beats hearing the whooosh at gear changes
