I'm wanting to change my car for a bugeye sti, i've been to see a few but theres 2 cars that stand out from the rest and i'm needing a bit of adviceface-icon-small-confused.gif

The first car is a black 52 plate uk car with one owner and 30k miles on the clock with fssh, the other is a wr blue 02 plate jap import with 31k on the clock and fsh, both cars are in great condition and both are standard, am i right in assuming that the jap car will be better spec'd and have more power as standard ? From what i can see the import has a higher rear spoiler and black tinted rear windows what other differences is there ?

Do the Bugeye JDM's not come with HID's as standard??

Faced with the choice, I'd go for the Black STi.... there are an awful lot of Blue Newage cars around. Also, surely if you're going to modify it then the initial power difference will be no more. face-icon-small-wink.gifface-icon-small-smile.gif

I've been out in the black one today and it felt like new, the blue one is 180 miles away and it will be saturday before i can get a drive in it, i like black but the the other half wants blue with gold wheelsface-icon-small-happy.gif

The black one is a private buy so there would be no trade in available, where as the blue import is in a dealers so i could get rid of my car in the process.

Yes there is warranty with the blue one, i'm not sure for how long or how comprehensive the warranty will be, or if it will still be valid after i take the car to Duncan@Hypertech on the quest for powerface-icon-small-happy.gifface-icon-small-wink.gif

A suppose warranty isnt really a factor then. Ive done the blue with gold wheels, so will go for a change with the next 1!

Theres a couple of Black Sti's in my area and they are minted looking!

With jdm being at the dealers you might get 6months or 1years warranty .With the Jdm you would need a Cat 1 alarm fitted or get it in your deal and maybe insurance wise a tracker fitted and i don't think 02 has hid lights .They have more power and torque than uk sti and more toys

The jdm one has had a rac trackstar and a cat 1 fitted m8face-icon-small-smile.gif

What is the power output of a standard 2002 jdm sti ?

300bhp and 275torque .I have 05jdm sti which has 310 or more with 303torque but has equal lenght manifold and twin scroll turbo .That year does not have the twin scroll or different exhaust manifold last bits went on 03 onwards jdms the torque wise changes evey year ie goes up and the power wise is on 100ron fuel .I am running mine on optimax and octane booster till i get it remaped for optimax some others might come a long with more info than me and no scooby burble

There are two different STI Type Uk bugeye models, the standard one and the ?Prodrive Style? one which I have, both cars have the same power, suspension etc, the only difference were the different front bumper & grill, the side skirts, the high level rear spoiler and blue faced dials. If you are looking for anymore info, please have a look at my website as I have the technical/model info on it listed under my car.face-icon-small-smile.gif

I did read that but as I don't have any info on the JDM STI, that?s why I haven't posted about it. The only info I do know is that there were some "Prodrive Style" ones sent to Japan for sale as well.

I have made a mistake in the above statement, "sent to" should be replaced by "in", i am very sorry and will try and not do it again.face-icon-small-blush.gif

Correct me if i'm wrong but don't JDM imprezas have a rear wiper. Small point but makes a big difference, especially this time of year

A lot of cr*p

Your car is a STI Type UK fitted with a Prodrive Styling Pack not a Prodrive Style

If your car is a Prodrive Style, which was JDM only and came with a roof scoop and DCCD then i am a vicars auntie

God bless you for thinking that but do not give out cr&p info like that, keep that to your own website

Correction 1...............there are alot of Blue UK newages knocking around face-icon-small-wink.gifface-icon-small-wink.gif

Correction 2...............the initial power difference will be alot more unless the blackSTI is ppp'd. Standard UK STI 265bhp or there abouts.............standard JDM STI 300-310bhp. So if you go for a full de-cat and remap on UK STI you could look at possibley 300 bhp whereas doing the same to the JDM (like i did) you should see about 345 bhp.

Were do I start, you might be wrong on this one, were ever you copy & paste you?re knowledge from is wrong on this occasion. I will bring the Subaru Brochure to the next Glasgow meet I attend, to show you in person, until then please have a look at the following links which include the prodrive site which states my car is a Subaru Impreza STI Prodrive Style Type Uk. I may not be as knowledgeable about Subaru?s as you but you?re little out burst is uncalled for.

On the Prodrive site is does say that the "STI Prodrive Style" was developed for the world market and there fore might have been supplied in Japan with a DCCD and roof scope, but I have never said my car was a JDM or that it had such items.

Please feel free to have a read of any of these?s web pages.

PS I only give out duff information when I know I?m right.

Clicked on all of them and i see mainly references to Styling additions and mention of the Prodrive Performance Pack.

First 2 were unknown authors on Yahoo cars. Very authorotive!

Number 3 was a reference to 4car website which is a look at the 2003 model with a reference to your Prodrive Style like the high level spoiler

Number 4 IWOC, is also referring to styling issues like the blue dials

Could not be arsed clicking and reading the rest as i get the jist of where you are coming from.

Just the same as they stopped calling the upgrades to the model as "Version" in 2000 with the demise of the classic shape but everyone over here continues to refer to the Type UK STI as a Version 7 or 8 when its proper name was/is a STI Type UK . Almost as annoying as classic UK car owners calling thier car a WRX but not quite.

I do not copy and paste regurgetated info in the wrong context, i base my info on direct Japanese sources not UK journos that are mainly guessing about car monikers

My reference is Impreza Magazine, a Hyper Rev publication and not available in this country, unless you are sad like me and import it yourself, with pictures of the new model lineup which shows the Prodrive Style having the roof scoop, dccd and a host of other goodies that the UK Prodrive Stlye does not appear to have. All of the styling touches on your car were std on the JDM std STI and the Prodrive Style was an attempt by Subaru Uk to jazz up the exterior of an awkward looking car to help boost sales which at that time were in freefall. The JDM STI Prodrive Style was a very different car to the STI Type Uk Prodrive Style that you are referring to.

If i had a UK Prodrive Style and a JDM Prodrive Style then i know which one i would wanna drive

Proper Mini Cooper ala' 1968 or a BMW Cooper circa 2005, both Mini Coopers but very different cars, one is a real drivers car and the other is trying to cash in on the Cooper branding

JDM Civic Type R or UK Civic Type R, one has 225bhp and LSD the other has 200bhp and no LSD. It was Honda UK that chose the Type R moniker for the new sporty version of the Civic to cash in on the cult status of the Type R brand. In Japan the Type R comes in any colour you like as long as it is white but the UK car is not available in white as the white colour is applied to all real Type R's

Are you also trying to say that they built some cars in Japan the exported them to the UK and then re- imported them as Prodrive Style. Never going to happen as they are built on different production facilties to completely different specs The STI Type UK and all the other non-jdm models are built in a seperate production facilty to the JDM STI and WRX's.

By the way they never really found a double decker bus on the moon it was a hoax by the Sunday Sport, my point is do not follow in with what so called authorities on a subject, and i include International Motors of Cheam in this statement. The minute the called the bug-eye a WRX they lost all respect from me as the UK WRX is not fit enough to lace a real JDM WRX's boots and do not get me started on the comparison between a JDM STI and a UK STI which is in essence a detuned JDM WRX

Rant over

In reply to Des's original question, i would go for the JDM STI any day but you probably guessed that

Away for a drive in my 95 WRC car oh sorry it is just a Blue Subaru Impreza WRX STI Version 2 Limited

No pisstake here as it is duff info, although in now realise that Malky's surname is Duff and will amend the original post to "God bless you for thinking that but do not give out cr*p info like that, keep that to your own website "

Just a coincedence, fruedian slip or whatever

I always put my hand up if i get something wrong but when i have a Japanese publication in front of me giving it to me in full colour then i am NOT wrong on this occasion. So if Malky is looking for an apology he can get in line behind Wullie and Claire who i also believe are looking for apology from me
