GrantyBoy Posted December 16, 2005 Posted December 16, 2005 Hi Guys My car has just failed the MOT on emissons. Turns out the CAT supplied from the importers doesn't look to be the correct one, the garage has told me the CAT is around 1" too small and won't meet up with the rest of the system. If I can find a center section CAT tomorrow or Saturady AM then the garage will redo the MOT Saturday morning. The exhaust system is an HKS backbox, HKS decat center (I think it HKS), H&S de-cat down pipe. Even comparing my center CAT with another known Subaru CAT would help. I've also emailed the import company so I'll see what they say... Cheers
WUZ Posted December 16, 2005 Posted December 16, 2005 Grant - if you are desperate, speak to Ken Ross, who has the Scootish SIDC OE "double-cat" centre pipe! Your car will have come with no Centre Cat. The STi's never had one! If the Centre cat supplied by the importers is too narrow, it'll probably be from a SPORT as they ran a 2" system instead of a 2.5" system on a Turbo. Russell
GrantyBoy Posted December 16, 2005 Author Posted December 16, 2005 As usual you hit the nail on the head, CAT supplied is about 1/2" too narrow as well. Sent Ken a PM. How much does it cost to get a CAT that would fit my car for future use and where would be the best place to get one from? Ta
GrantyBoy Posted December 16, 2005 Author Posted December 16, 2005 Cheers Gents Kenny, Text sent. Owe you for this
WUZ Posted December 16, 2005 Posted December 16, 2005 You'll find one now and again on Ebay M8, they are about 20 qiud AFAIK! Russell ps - If Ken can't get to you for Saturday, I have a spare one for you if needed!
GrantyBoy Posted December 19, 2005 Author Posted December 19, 2005 Well the car went in again today, and failed. I've been told the Ken special double cat center pipe is about 1/2 a foot too short. Have I got some stupid exhaust system on? Away to crawel under the car and measure each section. Any ideas as to why why car's isn't playing the game
ken555 Posted December 19, 2005 Posted December 19, 2005 I have a standard Back box as well if that helps.
ScoobyAndy Posted December 19, 2005 Posted December 19, 2005 Id be telling the garage where to go and try going somewhere else thats a lil more "friendly" either that or rally the living daylights out it before taking it in
WUZ Posted December 19, 2005 Posted December 19, 2005 I know the Downpipe is correct! Sounds to me like somone is pulling a fast one M8, take none of it! Russell
GrantyBoy Posted December 20, 2005 Author Posted December 20, 2005 Well I'm soaked after rolling around under the car. Only had one jack so didn't get under the car fully. My center CAT and Kens double CAT are both 137cm. I placed Kens CAT under the de-cat pipe and saw it's approx 2"-3" too short. So I guess it must be the backbox is throwing things out But what I don't get is I thought downpipe's, de-cat pipe's and back boxes are all the same length. Regardless of the make. Has anyone ever had this type of problem before. Guess I have to find a friendly MOT station in the meantime.
sean_macphee Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 Grant, I have a type R Impreza as well which is also fully de-catted. It might be a bit of a trip for you but I put my car to Glenburgie Subaru in Forres who swap out the whole system from the turbo back and get it MOT'd that way. After the test it gets swapped back to your own system. Might be an idea? Glenburgie (Liam) are on 01309 676787 or 07788 585598. Cheers Sean
GrantyBoy Posted December 20, 2005 Author Posted December 20, 2005 cheers seany boy, sounds like a good plan.
WUZ Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 Crikey Grant - If you'd told me, I'd have fitted the OE D/P to your car B4 I left to come out here Russell
ken555 Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 Grant can you get back in contact with me. I need the exhaust back so I can get my own car MOTed.
TypeRA28 Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 I agrea with Seanyboy. I have always found Glenburgie to be very helpful when it comes to MOT.
