clan2_uk Posted September 27, 2005 Posted September 27, 2005 I have just bought an Alpine 9853R head unit and I was looking for a bit of advice, my question is, do I need to buy one of those iso adaptors or will it be wired like for like ?
st3ph3n Posted September 27, 2005 Posted September 27, 2005 Assuming you have a stock head unit you'll need an Iso adaptor. Cheapish and makes it dead easy to install. Otherwise you'll have to start splicing wires together, and that's not pretty. My pioneer head unit came from America and wasn't ISO terminated, so what I ended up doing was chopping the ISO ends off an ISO to Subaru Adaptor and joining up all the correctly coloured wires to that, and then plugging it into the Subaru plug in the car. Worked first time. Only thing to watch out for is the powered antenna line. If that's not wired up you'll not get a good radio reception, but that's easy to fix by just connecting that particular wire up to the switched 12v line. From memory it's a blue wire for the powered antenna, but can't remember the switched 12v line.
colin_ross Posted September 27, 2005 Posted September 27, 2005 Halfords sell the adaptors but I ended up butchering an old one as none of the local stores had the right one in stock. They'll order it in if you're not in a rush.
clan2_uk Posted September 27, 2005 Author Posted September 27, 2005 Thanks for the info, hopefully the head unit I bought is ISO terminated as I didn't think to ask this.
irish al Posted September 27, 2005 Posted September 27, 2005 Have got a spare subaru - iso adapter that i will never use if you want it for a tenner. Where are you from.
clan2_uk Posted September 27, 2005 Author Posted September 27, 2005 Thanks, I'm in Dumbarton, I will wait until it has been delivered and I can check that it is ISO terminated then I will give you a shout. Where are you from ?
