Gumball Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 Hi I am looking to get a new turbo that can handle up to 400bhp with a front mounted intercooler to accompany this. I hear that the 20G may be the one but dont really know what advice to take. also what front mount is suitable other than the APS? what else should i get in preperation for another re-map?
st3ph3n Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 << what else should i get in preperation for another re-map? >> A helmet and a 4 point safety harness? Some sort of teather that keeps the car firmly attached to the ground? Sounds like you're really trying to push for some big numbers. And I like it.
Gumball Posted July 14, 2005 Author Posted July 14, 2005 Thanks I got a PM last night suggesting that what i need is tyres round the side of the car and a long electrical pilon in order to make it a real dodgem Pity the guy in question doesnt show his true humour on here so what your saying stephen is, you dont know what turbo or front mount i should get??? LOL
Gumball Posted July 14, 2005 Author Posted July 14, 2005 heres an awesome looking TD06H SUPERZILLA now thats a fine piece of engineering
Gumball Posted July 14, 2005 Author Posted July 14, 2005 theres a man standing underneath that !!!!!!!!
ormiboy Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 get a friend to buy you some Andy F gift vouchers, then you simply cant go wrong laddie, that turbo looks nice but you would be left playing with your self during spool up tho
Johnny50 Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 Chris.. If i were starting again, i'd be going for TD05/06 20g. Love them so much i've had 3 !!
Chris_B Posted July 14, 2005 Posted July 14, 2005 Whats your current spec? Super zilla is a bit much for standard internaled 2.0
Gumball Posted July 14, 2005 Author Posted July 14, 2005 pretty much out the factory with a prodrive system, uprated fuel pump and a remap. kicks out some good ponies and is very torquey just now. good told recently by the main man that in order to get a full potential from a remap again i need to change teh turbo and the intercooler. so that im not paying a lot of cash to be limited at 350bhp. *edited cos i cant spell*
johnnyr6 Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 Chris the hybrid fmic is a good bit of kit, i'm helping satan fit his and it's a good price to. As every one else is saying andy's 20g is the way to go.
Gumball Posted July 15, 2005 Author Posted July 15, 2005 i'll talk to andy again and see what he recommends. Thanks for your help
willie Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 Chris just get your wad out and get yourself one of these from scoobymania. Gumball Posted July 15, 2005 Author Posted July 15, 2005 Willie Nice idea. dont know about the wad though stretching to 5k............... youre obviously presuming i sell IT or something
st3ph3n Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 It's pretty sad. Are we all in IT? I know I am. Anyway, I wouldn't know a good Turbo and Intercooler as my knowledge of parts, brands, and how in the hell they all fit together is only just getting past the complete beginner stage. Maybe I'm being very newbie and non-technically minded, but big turbo = more lag? So would a nice Twin Scroll unit fit the bill? Also, I don't know if it's out of your price range, but Nasa have some solid fuel rocket boosters going cheap if they can't get this shuttle off the ground.
willie Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 Chris My thoughts are if you are going to go for more than 350bhp you need to do some engine internal stuff so why not get a 2.5l block. Miek had discussed doing it in a staged manner. ie drop in the 2.5l first pay for that then move onto the intercooler, turbo and maps...
Gumball Posted July 15, 2005 Author Posted July 15, 2005 get the bigger block at £1500. then start looking at turbos etc after that and of course a remap? could be a plan.
Chris_B Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 STI 8 i'm taking it is your car due to the sig. The STI 8 TMIC is very good i would say there is no need to replace it to see 400bhp. Plus the last i remember is the hybrid is still only made for classic shape. Andy's 18G's seem to be the new in thing and should produce 380bhp maybe a little more. This is what i would do walbro pump SX reg 18g turbo full de-cat (open neck) downpipe Ecutek remap ported headers
andy_robertson Posted July 15, 2005 Posted July 15, 2005 i was at hypertech the other day and scotts APS front mounting intercooler was being delivered and its huge!!!!!! i fancy a bigger intercooler for my WRX but not sure what to get
