st3ph3n Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 Has anyone fitted these or something similar. Maybe even with a wee picture to let me see them? Normally when I see wind deflectors they're about 40 inches thick and are on the whoole horrible, but that looks almost stealthy. I don't know if it's the pillarless design but I find that at motorway cruising speed putting the windows down at all results in more noise than any other car I've driven. With the current weather it means having to crank up the AC, and we all know that results in a fuel economy on a par with the space shuttle launches.
oobster Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 not fiited these stephen, but thought about it. I'd be interested to know how you get on, and if you can find them anywhere cheaper than subaru.
st3ph3n Posted June 29, 2005 Author Posted June 29, 2005 Revolution sell apparently genuine STI ones for £150. I couldn't decide if the Subaru ones were for a single side or both sides.
ian_craig2 Posted June 30, 2005 Posted June 30, 2005 they were on my classic when i had it matey looked quite good had them on both sides
oobster Posted June 30, 2005 Posted June 30, 2005 Stephen.... just spoke to Fiona @ Halleys. Price is PER PAIR (£69.95) and apparently they take just under an hour to fit. (approx. £60 fitting). Fiona also tells me that Halleys offer 10% discount on parts & fitting to SIDC members!! So approx £117 supplied & fitted inc. the discount. Thought that since i was already on the phone to them, and they had them in stock i might as well get the car booked in. Getting them fitted next Wednesday morning, so i'll let you know how they look + maybe post up a couple of pics if you want?
st3ph3n Posted June 30, 2005 Author Posted June 30, 2005 Cheers oobster, that would be great. Not bad price considering it's genuine scooby bits. I'd have bet the farm on it being per side, like their crazy mudflap pair prices. I think I'll get them, maybe next month now, but as long as your pictures turn out good then I think I will.
Mako Posted June 30, 2005 Posted June 30, 2005 Here's some pics of our car with the deflectors fitted. Fitted them myself, not too hard a job, took about an hour Cheers Russ pic1 pic2 pic3
st3ph3n Posted June 30, 2005 Author Posted June 30, 2005 They really are stealthy Mako. Love the white car BTW, quality colour. Do you notice much improvement in wind noise with the windows down with them fitted?
wrxmania Posted July 1, 2005 Posted July 1, 2005 Like the look of these - look quite small - do they work - they have on previous cars I've had - would love to get the windows down to hear the rumble in all weather Brian
Mako Posted July 1, 2005 Posted July 1, 2005 There is a definite reduction in wind noise with the windows down. When fitting just make sure that the seals are pushed right back in or you can get a bit of noise when the windows are back up. Otherwise well worth the money. Look cool too (IMO) Russ
st3ph3n Posted July 1, 2005 Author Posted July 1, 2005 I'm definetly going to get myself a pair. Thanks for the advice guys. You think if oobster mentioned that a few of us were considering getting them then Halleys would cut us a wee deal?
oobster Posted July 1, 2005 Posted July 1, 2005 i'll ask, but i suspect the 10% SIDC discount they are already giving me for parts AND labour is already fairly generous. I'll let you know though.
st3ph3n Posted July 1, 2005 Author Posted July 1, 2005 I'm just yanking your chain mate, 10% off parts and labour is fine. I wish I'd known about the 10% off as my car was in getting serviced 2 weeks ago and I don't think they gave me a discount, even with my SIDC window sticker and tax disc holder. Having said that it was my Dad who took it to get it serviced, and he wouldn't have thought to ask.
Mako Posted July 1, 2005 Posted July 1, 2005 If you give me a call or pm me I'll give you group discount if there are more than one order. We also do 10% discount to Sidc members. Russ Eden Subaru Cupar 01334 657400
oobster Posted July 6, 2005 Posted July 6, 2005 Got them fitted today @ Halleys, took about 1.75 hours. They look quite good but i think i noticed an increase in wind-noise (from outside the car before any smart-@rses reply) with the windows up. I'll check it out better on the motorway going home tonight (assuming the G8 unwashed haven't blocked the M8) and let anyone interested know. I'll also take a couple of pics & post them up later too. £115.00 halleys took for supplying + fitting EDITED: Pics now below. I'm getting a fair bit of noise thru the passenger side, might need to take it back to Halleys to have a look. Drivers side seal seams fine though. Now that i've had a few hours to get used to the look, it's growing on me but got to admit not worth £115!!
st3ph3n Posted July 8, 2005 Author Posted July 8, 2005 You sneaked this edit past me oobster! They do look good, but the price is certainly questionable with the fitting. I will consider them after my wee modding spree is finished for the moment.
MS S6CUB Posted July 8, 2005 Posted July 8, 2005 Looking good Oobs Did my directions help or hinder you
SEEVERS Posted July 8, 2005 Posted July 8, 2005 Stephen,i've got these fitted to my car,on it when i bought it. Price for supplying is ok,but you should fit them yourself ,i've had mine off and back on before. Save yourself some dough.......... Del.
oobster Posted July 8, 2005 Posted July 8, 2005 A wee update.... I mentioned the wind-noise increase on the passenger side in the edit above.... took it back into Halleys this morning and they couldn't fix it, so they decided to remove them completely & refund me. Happy with the outcome, although i'm a wee bit miffed as I was happy with the look of them. Couldn't live with the wind noise - the drivers side was fine, but the noise coming from the passenger side sounded like a leaf caught in the air vent, and it was LOUD I got them to remove just the passenger side one and then took the car for a drive and the noise has completely gone, so it was definitely the wind deflector that was causing it. Ah well, at least i've now got £115 to spend on something else!! Ideas anyone? Thanks to James @ Halleys service department for his help & advice today, very professional. I guess I was just unlucky on this occasion, the fitting looked fine to me. Didn't use your directions gayle, went another way (past the rangers training ground), but thanks anyway
st3ph3n Posted July 9, 2005 Author Posted July 9, 2005 Bit of a shame that oobster. Makes me wary of getting them now. So, £115 to spend? Scott Lowe lip/splitter?. Wee bit more pricey perhaps. Waiting on one arriving myself, as well as one of the spec c replica wings. And a new exhaust next Friday too. Lovely.
